Moxie
Belly Dancer in Des Plaines, IL
Why hire Moxie?
I have over 13 years of experience in Middle Eastern Dance, and I would be glad to bring my know-how and verve to your special event!I can stylize the performance to fit your requests: traditional, rock, jazzy, gothic, or variations in between. I perform at events like weddings, birthday parties, retirement parties, corporate events, and more. I also love to arrange workshop parties for things like bachelorette parties. Bellydance is a wonderful, empowering way to get fit and have fun. A mini-lesson (or full lesson!) for all your guests is a great way to bond, loosen up, and have an outrageously good time. Please let me know the date, location, and event type when requesting a quote.
About
I began to bellydance in 1998. My main teachers were Sonya in Cabaret and Eliza in Tribal and Tribal Fusion. I started acting in community plays when I was seven, and I worked at the Bristol Renaissance Faire for two years, so I am very expressive and comfortable with interaction.
I love dancing to nontraditional music, so I can bring a rock & roll, jazzy, or burlesque-y influence to performances. I also love classical music so I will gladly dance to traditional Middle Eastern or Middle Eastern pop. I am confident with a variety of props including veil, fan veil, cane, and sword. My approach to props is to actually dance with them rather than standing around and displaying them.
In 2012, I attended the prestigious Tribal Massive Intensive in Las Vegas and received my Tribal Massive certification -- which means I survived 8 days of dancing for 8 hours in a very intense environment. I loved it!
I am a strong, flexible, athletic dancer as well. I began practicing yoga in 1990, and in 2011, I did the Teacher Training Program at TriBalance Yoga Center. I am currently working on my Sadie Nardini Core Vinyasa certification. I feel that yoga makes me a strong dancer and a strong person, enabling me to fully connect with others. It also means I'm less likely to injure myself during a performance, and that for any sort of instruction, the students will receive a proper warm up and cool down so they leave the room feeling better than they did when they arrived.

Influences
I am trained in classical Cabaret by Sonya, Tribal and Tribal Fusion by Eliza. My biggest influences are Zoe Jakes, Ariellah, Unmata, Kami Liddle, Sonya, and Eliza. I recently received the very prestigious Tribal Massive Certification after an intense 8-day Tribal Fusion bootcamp in Las Vegas.
What to Expect
Typical Gig Duration: 10 - 20 minutes
I am a fun, expressive performer. An audience member will be entertained and engaged. The event producer can count on me to bring my complete energy and focus to the experience they request: classical, rock & roll, mysterious, campy, or a variety of characters. I have a background in acting as well as dance, so I bring the full experience to every performance.
Stage/Setup Requirements:
CD Player
Room to change (with door that shuts and locks)
Smooth dance surface at least 10X10
Additional Notes:
I need at least a 10X10 clean space to dance, as well as a sound system with CD or iPod compatibility. It's best to tell me in advance. Also, some props like veil need more room, so it's best to let me know in advance how much space I will have.
