Krista Solars started playing classical violin, Suzuki method, when she was four years old. She began fiddle music when she was six years old, at the same time as her two older brothers. Though neither Krista nor her brothers ever technically had a teacher especially for fiddle music, their classical violin teacher said that it might motivate all three of them to keep practicing the violin in the summer when there were no lessons - so they all began fiddle music, as well as continuing with their classical studies.
In 2004, Krista won first place at the Ohio State Fiddle Contest in the Junior Division, 18 & Under, and in August of 2009, she won first place in the Senior Division (ages 22 - 54) at the Ohio State Fiddle Contest. In October of 2008, she competed in the Grand Master Fiddling Championship and placed 24th out of all who competed. She has also won many other contests throughout the states of Ohio and West Virginia. In addition to all the contests and other venues she performed at, Krista also recorded her first CD in 2004, entitled "A Little Fiddle". After the apparent success in sales, Krista decided to record another CD, which is named "A Little Fiddle 2: Disturbin' The Peace". In the spring of 2008, her third CD was published, entitled "Fiddlin' With Dynamite!". One of her songs from this album, "Jumpin' The Strings", is currently the theme song for 'The Picks & Bows Bluegrass Show' on WQKT, 104.5 in Wooster, OH. Newly released is her fourth studio album, entitled "Burnin' Up The Fiddle".
Krista played in the Akron Youth Symphony (2000-2002), in addition to the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra (2002-2006). She also played in the Oberlin Orchestra, and went with that same ensemble to perform in Carnegie Hall in January of 2007. From 2002 until her graduation the spring of 2010, she studied classical violin with Milan Vitek. Krista then graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Violin Performance from Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Currently, Krista is pursuing her Master's Degree - also in Violin Performance - at Indiana University, while studying baroque violin, and continuing her fiddle playing.
