I have been dancing my whole life. I began my journey in belly dance when I was 23 at the Cassandra School in Minneapolis but knew that Cabaret was not what I was looking for. I continued to study while researching belly dance history and evolution. I came across Rachel Brice in 2005 and thought, “this is more like it…” but it still wasn’t what I was craving.
When I was reading Rachel Brice’s bio one day I learned about FatChanceBellyDance and American Tribal Style belly dance. I did a youtube and google search and the first video I came across was (then PotBelly Tribal) Moon Sister belly dance performing to Sting’s Desert Rose. I fell instantly in love and began to learn absolutely everything I could about ATS. The very next video I found was the “Who We Are” video about FCBD and knew I had found my heart’s content for the rest of my dance life.
I studied alone for a few years, honing my ability the best I was able without a teacher anywhere near.
After a few years and realizing I was confident enough in my knowledge of ATS to perform, I formed Minnesota’s first pure ATS troupe Mystic Caravan ATS and performed with Amber Hunt and Noelle Anderson (of the now disbanded Isis Moon Tribal) until my relocation to Minneapolis in August 2010.
I have danced with Tribe Unda and Sofia Tribal as a guest and most recently performed with the ATS collective One Dance No Borders at Tamarind Tribal's Tribal Union in Milwaukee, WI and again in Bloomington, Indiana at Tribal Village.
My many teachers have included Carolena Nericcio, FatChanceBellyDance, Megha Gavin of Devyani Dance Company, Cassandra Shore, and Jen Nolan of Tamarind Tribal. A great deal of wisdom and dance instruction has been imparted by Beth Nicholson of Tamarind Tribal, Coleena Shakti, and Melanie Moore of Tribe Unda.
I am General Skills and Teacher Certified by FatChanceBellyDance and Minnesota's first Sister Studio to FatChanceBellyDance and presently teach pure FCBD ATS at Studio Sendero in Lowertown St. Paul and perform when time and opportunities allow.
I am a member of the Guild of Oriental Dance, Middle Eastern Culture and Dance Association, the Sacred Dance Guild, The National Dance Teacher's Association, and The Professional Dancers Society.
In addition to dancing as much as possible, I am also a recent addition to the staff of Fuse Tribal Magazine as a freelance writer and Advertising Sales gal!
