Jim has been calling since the twelfth grade and has over forty years experience working with groups of all kinds. He specializes in conducting dances for people with little or no dance experience. Couples clubs, church groups, family groups, daddy/daughter girl scout groups, wedding receptions, anniversaries, college groups, etc. His motto is: "if you can walk, you can dance."
Circle mixers, square dancing, contra dancing, line dancing and a Virginia Reel are all part of an evening of fun.
Jim supplies the sound system, music and leadership. Live music with a 3 - 5 piece band is optional.
Located in SE Michigan, but willing to travel.

This event was a free community square dance. It included families, adults and children. The dancing consisted of circles, squares, line and contra to prerecorded music. Since most were not experienced dancers, the instruction (calls) were kept to an easy-to-do fun level. About 60 people participated.

About
Jim Tait was first exposed to square dancing in the eighth grade in phys ed class in public school. About that same time his parents begain taking square dance lessons at the local church. Jim used to accompany his parents to their square dance class. Soon other adults offered to bring their teen-aged daughter to class so Jim wouldn't have to dance with his mom. Soon Jim joined a teenage square dance club and was encouraged by his peers to try calling. By twelfth grade he was getting paid gigs to call. It helped pay his way through college. Now Jim enjoys showing people a good time and enjoys calling for groups of all kinds. Jim's clear, concise way of instruction makes it easy to follow the basic calls and getting even the rank beginner dancing in no time. For Jim it's all about the fun and getting a group of people mixing and socializing on the dance floor. Family nights, daddy/daughter nights, couple clubs, wedding receptions and even senior citizen groups can have a great time dancing. For family nights, Jim can include such dances as the Hokey Pokey, Chicken Dance or Macarena. As Jim says "if you can walk, you can dance."
Jim comes complete with his own specialized sound system for clear, crisp sound. Music is mostly on 45 rpm vinyl records. Some music is on CD's. An optional live band is available.

What to Expect
Typical Gig Duration: 120 - 240 minutes
Jim arrives promptly for set up and starts at the contracted time. He is suitably attired in western wear and cowboy hat. He is articulate and personable in his presentation.

Additional Notes:
Jim needs at least a 6 foot table near an electrical outlet to set up his equipment. A large, clear, open space with a flat, smooth dancing surface is ideal. A wooden floor is best. Jim prefers to be on floor level with the dancers, not on a stage. A generally, well lit area is best.
