I charge middle of the road not the most expensive not the cheapest. I charge a fair rate of pay considering I use real body makeup safe for all skin types that will not cause skin problems ... what are you paying for when you hire a face painter? You are paying for supplies and face painting supplies are not cheap due to the fact that it is not paint at all it is actually specialty body makeup fda approved for all skin types. You are paying for gas to and from event and the artists hourly rate. You are also paying for additional supplies if you include glitter tattoos (again it is not craft art glitter you buy at the corner store it is fda approved glitter for body makeup a different material and size or it should be so if it gets in the children's eyes you don't wind up with scratched corneas or other issues with craft art glitter), you are also paying for the years of classes the artist took, tools, tables, set up and tear down times, skill level, advertising the entire cost of doing business is wrapped up into the rates legitimate artists have to charge to get the job done safely, correctly and still stay in business.
If you want only a tiny cheek painting then yes that is less than offering full face plus 3 other services so you will be comparing apples to apples not apples to a bushel of oranges. My point being if you get 4 bids mine is more and you automatically toss mine in the trash but my bids are for more than the bare minimum. So If I submit a bid to you and you only want tiny cheek paintings please let me know that ... my bids provide quality level of family entertainment meaning the teenagers and parents usually wind up joining in as well to make things that much more memorable .. they will be talking about their body art a year later something like this "remember so and so's party last year and we all got glitter or temporary tattoos, now that was fun mine lasted for 6 days we should do that again." a direct quote and this has been paraphrased to me several times by families re-booking me.
Point being before you toss out bids make sure you are comparing apples to apples and do not feel nervous about calling a bidder back and refreshing your memory of who they are and what they offer and let them know what you want so they can make adjustments if you want more or if you want less bids can easily be adjusted if there is an open line of communication so you get the best for your party or event .... it is after all lasting family memories you are building and I would be honored to be a part of that.
I typically show up a few minutes before to an hour before depending on how extensive my set up is going to be if its just bring my paints and supplies in to a table already set up or if its bring in my basic table and set up or if its bring my 10 x 10 pop up tent with tables chairs banners and my own generator.
Then after our event has ended, I have a review form I bring, If there is staff working in my place I will email the review form to you. I present the form to you and collect the final payment and if the job performed met or exceeded your expectations a great review and tipping the artist is optional and greatly appreciated. If this is a yearly event and you already know you would definitely want to use our services again I will reward you with additional time at your next event at no extra charge for re-booking by placing a deposit now.
NEWS FLASH: If you saw the recent article: "FDA warns consumers about dangers of temporary tattoos"
It brings up very valid concerns as follows:
The Jist of the article is henna tattoo ink that has been supplemented with various non skin friendly chemicals to darken or lengthen the durability of the henna inks.
Ask your body painting artist if she is a member of the World Body Painting Association. One of the things we do is educate ourselves on professional products that are designed SPECIFICALLY to be safe for skin.
One of our CREEDS states: We do not use anything on the skin, face or hair that could in any way harm the person. If it was not designed specifically for use on skin, hair or face we are not going to use it.
Now ... that being said there are the greedy opportunists that jump into any fad that is making money and to make a quick buck they will do anything at all including put others in harms way.
Choose your artist carefully like with anything do a little research an educated consumer is the best equipped consumer.
I am a committed artist and anything I put on your skin is designed and created and tested and FDA approved to be used on skin. Many of my paints are even safe to put on a babies skin. I will not put you or your children in harms way, ever.
In fact this brings me to my final point, you get what you pay for; if you are getting dirt cheap prices you might be getting cheap paint from who knows where Michael's sells acrylic paint for $5.00 a tube which would paint 200 faces but it is toxic to skin. My paint cost 2.5 times that amount and covers maybe 50 faces so you see there is a huge difference.
My paints, skin sweat sealers, sealers and skin adhesives even the body glitter is make up grade ... are all moderately to very expensive. My prices in part reflect what I have to pay for products that keep you safe and me in good standing with my peers and the World Body Painting Association and my clients whom of which about 1/4 of them are children.

Craig Tracey <- really influenced me I totally adore him and his encouragement and advice. Mark Reid and John Neyrot I have taken private lessons from both artists. Local artist Leroy Roper has also given me great advice. Joanne Gair and her amazing body art blow me out of the water. There are many body painting artists that I really admire their works and who they are as a person. I strive to constantly improve and climb higher in artistic skills.
What to Expect
Typical Gig Duration: 10 - 360 minutes
I show up on time set up a professional table or booth depending on size of event and deliver great body art per our agreed upon requests.
Running water, electricity
I need time to create, many a time I have found that clients do not fully understand what goes into body painting. Depending on what I am painting there is often days and days to weeks worth of practicing and prepping to get a theme to look right I might paint something entirely many many times before I get to your day and I paint it on you. Art classes for realism, technique classes with my tools, studying and researching lighting or how cloth falls in different ways. I don't just show up and spray you with paint cans as one client told me as she was justifying why she showed up an hour late for her session, "you're just gonna spray me with paint cans you don't need all that time." Ummm wow.... o.k. So there is a great deal of behind the scenes work that clients do not see. I research reference materials for my reference picture or I create a brand new one and use that as my reference. Making sure the colors are correct, if there is any additional ordering for costume or special FX's prosthetics etc etc .... skin pre prep, applying body paint, skin post prep afterwards there is an art to this art!
I book many types of events: kids parties, adult parties, football game parties, tail gate parties, private events, public events, festivals, face painting gigs, promotional model painting, replicating clothing or product logos like alcohol bottle labels, I book charity fund raisers and can make custom stencils with your event or company logo. Sky is the limit really.
