About
One of the wonders of jazz is that it gives the musician all the freedom he needs to interpret his favourite tunes. A good jazz guitarist is not restricted by the melody on the music sheet. Instead, he presents his own interpretation in a way that pleases your ear, most probably depending on his inspiration of the moment as well as the mood of the audience. As he extemporizes, you hear not only melodies, but also impromptu variations, which, replete with semitones and complicated scales, tend to demonstrate a sophistication foreign to other types of popular music.
Well, I think that is what I would do, should I have the honor to perform for you. I render jazz standards on the electric guitar in a quiet, improvisational style that without question is congruous with the ambience of a hotel restaurant-bar. In addition, if I play along with a jazz pianist plus a drummer-percussionist, my guitar strains will blend in perfectly with the piano rendition, making the music even more colourful.
