Avalon Nine has entertained audiences throughout Ohio for seven years with an eclectic mix of vintage rock and roots, and they cover a lot of musical ground. Their music is flavored with the "roots of rock" sounds of San Francisco’s Avalon Ballroom and contemporary Americana. The result is a fresh--but familiar--sound and their original material pays homage to American folk, rock and pop traditions. From Jimmy Page to Jimmie Rodgers, Neil Young to Bob Dylan, Steve Winwood to Steve Earle, Avalon Nine unearths gems by great singer songwriters and creates new arrangements, sometimes with an unexpected twist. Besides playing for hire at private and corporate events, festivals, and music venues, the band offers donated or discounted performances to non-profit organizations that it supports. Linda Blaine (vocals, percussion, acoustic guitar) picked up the acoustic guitar in high school, but it was years before she picked it up again to sing and play at libraries, schools, and community events. After years of musical theater, singing in church and community choirs, she met Dave at an “open mic” and they immediately found common musical ground. Her influences include Joni Mitchell, Julie Miller, Bob Dylan, Richard Thompson and the Beatles.

Dave Clutter (acoustic guitar, vocals, harmonica) grew up in rural Ohio in a musical family where early piano lessons led to a lifelong infatuation with acoustic guitar. His influences run from Led Zeppelin and Neil Young to Gillian Welch and Jimmie Rodgers. He also confesses to a taste for late '60, '70s and '80s pop music. He has played with Linda Blaine as Avalon Nine Duo since 2004.

Brian Szuch (electric guitars, nylon string guitar, resonator guitar, mandolin, and vocals) is an architect by profession. He started playing guitar at the age of 8, and joined the Cleveland band Element when he was 13. While attending OSU he began doing recording session work and composing and recording music for student film projects. A founding member of regional bands Loosely Strung and Halfway Home, his musical influences include Toto, Little Feat, Brent Mason, Michael Landau, Bryan Sutton, and Jerry Douglas.

Rebecca Stansbury (violin, percussion and vocals) began playing violin and piano at age 7. She studied classical music and cites early influences as “jazz, rock, pop and lots of music that falls between the cracks of musical genres.” While living in Denmark she played in a contemporary folk band and a Danish folk-dance band. Later, in Tennessee, she was in the Buck Road Grass Abusers bluegrass band for 3 years. She has since made Columbus her home and plays a wide variety of material with various musicians and groups.

Dudley Townsend (upright and electric bass, vocals) is a multi-instrumentalist and a recent addition to the Avalon Nine lineup. Dudley grew up in a very musical family and toured with the Guy Lombardo Royal Canadian Orchestra From 1983 until 1985. He then went on active duty with the Army in the 4th US Army band in Chicago and was there until 1989. Being well rounded musically, he has played in country, hard rock, and jazz bands throughout the years.
