Fantastic!

Andy performed at my wedding ceremony and was fantastic. He played Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Pua Hone which were both first class. He showed his versatility when we asked him to play the Frames' "Star Star" as the recessional song. Definitely highly recommend!

Overview

About

Andy is a vocalist, acoustic guitarist and ukulele player who performs traditional and contemporary Hawaiian music. He can perform solo or in a band that can include guitar, ukulele, Hawaiian lap steel guitar, and/or bass guitar. Additionally, packages may include Polynesian dancers (Hawaiian hula, Tahitian, or Samoan fire dancer.)

With family ties to the island of Oahu, Andy developed an insatiable love for Hawaiian music and the fingerstyle tradition of kī hōʻalu (slack key guitar.) For many years, he has returned to Hawaii to study with a host of Hawaiian slack key guitar masters including Ozzie Kotani, Keola Beamer, George Kahumoku, Jr. and Raymond Kāne. Andy's Hawaiian name, Kūlana, was given to him by songwriter, hula teacher and Hawaiian cultural authority, Auntie Nona Beamer.

His performances in Hawaii include Pakele Live! at the Willows, Hawaii Public Radio’s Atherton Theater, and the Japanese Cultural Center. On the East Coast, he appeared as a special guest with "Hawaii's super group" HAPA at Highline Ballroom (NY), Narrows Center for the Arts (MA), Kaye Playhouse (NY), and Tin Angel (PA) and twice opened for the legendary Mākaha Sons. He has provided musical accompaniment for respected hula groups including Hālau Pua Aliʻi ʻIlima O Nuioka (under the direction of Master Hula Teacher Vicky Holt Takamine.) Whether it's Staten Island Stadium, the Fire Island Dance Festival or a private home, Andy's music is authentic, rooted in tradition, and transports listeners back home to the islands.

Andy is a member of the Hawaiʻi Academy of Recording Arts and board member of Hālāwai, a New York not-for-profit corporation, whose mission is to foster and support a community of individuals who share a common interest in the heritage, culture, history and future of the people of Hawaiʻi and other Pacific Islands.
