Why hire Alistair McHarg?
Alistair McHarg is an internationally known author, poet, cartoonist, comedian, and speaker. His bipolar memoir, Invisible Driving, is a harrowing and hilarious look inside the bizarre world of manic depression. Washed Up, his second novel, is an irreverent social satire based on his experiences in recovery.
Alistair is a highly engaging lecturer who balances offbeat observations and candor with humor and motivation. Having survived mental illness and substance abuse, McHarg delivers a truly inspiring story of facing the most challenging aspects of life, addressing them, and growing stronger, and happier, in the process.
Alistair McHarg - where ridiculous meets sublime.
About
Alistair McHarg is an author, poet, cartoonist, performer and bipolar dipsomaniac. His life has been spent in social, emotional, psychological, and geographical extremes. Fate, fortune, and strange circumstance immersed him in a host of experiences scrupulously avoided by most. Ironically, these ordeals have been the key to almost all of his spiritual growth.
Words are his tools, truth, however difficult, is his quarry, and humor is the sweet spot on his racquet. He adores the language and delights in giving it a rigorous workout. Entertainment is paramount but his work his rarely frivolous. Expect a one-man show that will be as funny and original as it is real and uplifting.

What to Expect
Typical Gig Duration: 20 - 60 minutes
I speak extemporaneously, drawing from a deep reserve of stories and anecdotes. I will also read passages from my books and poems, perhaps show a few cartoons and recite some of my famous Taz Mopula quotes. This provides a nice point / counterpoint to keep the pace moving.
There is always a delicate balance that includes - shock, amazement, fear, hilarity, and the resonance of truth. I share openly from every aspect of my totally surreal life - this includes revealing what it's like to have an internationally famous father - as well as describing stints in prison and mental hospitals. Audiences are amazed at the range and breadth of my experience - and how it has changed me.
My presentation style is always irreverent, entertaining, and brutally honest. Thoughtful audiences understand that my life itself is a motivational story - I have overcome astounding odds and evolved into a happy, healthy human being who is having fun and helping people at the same time.
There is an emotional generosity about what I do that is inspiring. I help people not take themselves too seriously so that they can enjoy their lives more and reach higher.
The audience will be surprised, delighted, stunned, and moved. I am no mere entertainer - I am an artist, and entertainment is an element of my art. My audiences get something they can take home with them, something that lasts.
