Why hire Ace Acker?

A former MCA Records recording artist with the Ohio/Atlanta-based band LAW, I am a self-contained performer who plays electric and acoustic guitar and sings lead vocals to high quality, self-produced backing tracks. Currently I have about 200 fully produced tracks ranging from Stevie Ray Vaughan to the Beatles, form Neil Young to Prince, from excellent to original songs to classic blues, and everything in between,

I have 40 years' experience as an entertainer, songwriter and producer, and guitarist, and my experience shows onstage. I think most people enjoy my personality and presentation, as well as my music, and most people leave as friends and fans.

Club/NightclubHad the pleasure of co-creating & gigging with Steve in LAW back in the mid. 70's. He was good at his craft then. In my perhaps not so humble musical opinion he is even better now. His ability to translate thru music, be it original or an interpretation, the joys & pains we all share along the bumpy road of life, is what musicians call "feel." Ya gots it or ya don't!! Steve has it. Check my man out live should you have the opportunity. You will not be disappointed.

Mr. Acker Plays the Blues!

rating starrating starrating starrating starrating star

Holiday PartyThat Steve is an accomplished guitarist goes without saying but the thing that stays with you is his orginal songs. If you get to hear him live be sure to request some of the originals he has composed over the years that are sure to leave you wanting more. The other great thing about Steve live is getting him to play some acoustic blues. His guitar playing is world class and when he plays the blues be prepared to be transported back to Mississippi and the Delta as he channels some of the greats!

Response from Ace Acker:
Mr. Fulmer was a high school classmate who remains one of my closest friends and biggest supporters. A world-class photographer, his photos grace my homepage and many other pages on my websites. He's a tough critic, with the creds to be tough, so praise from Joe is always deeply appreciated.

About

INTRODUCING ACE ACKER
The Perfect Soundtrack for Any Event

Steven "Ace"Acker has been making music and hits since his teens in Warren, Ohio. He founded the band LAW in 1971, which was discovered and signed to MCA Records in 1975 by The Who. LAW toured throughout the decade with The Who, Bob Seger, Boston, Bad Company, and nearly every other major rock act of the era. He was (and is) widely regarded as one of the finest and most exciting rock and blues guitarists to ever emerge from the Northeast United States.

In 1978, Steve left the band and joined his family in Jackson, Mississippi, where his father was running two General Motors plants. Two years later he scored a regional hit 45 rpm record with a rock college fight song titled "Bulldog Blitz" for Mississippi State University. He joined the state's largest advertising agency in 1982, where he composed many popular jingles and created numerous award-winning ad campaigns. He left Jackson in 1985 after graduating from Mississippi College, to work as a creative director for a Nashville advertising agency, where he remained for 14 years. During this period his work earned numerous national creative awards. An adult education program Ace created for Dollar General Stores earned a Special Award from President Reagan and has, to date, resulted in 1.5 million Dollar General customers earning their GED Certificates or learning how to read.

In 1999 Ace returned to Jackson and produced hit CD's for Ole Miss & Mississippi State University.

Composing original songs like “The Hotty Toddy Song and ”(All Aboard) The Rebel Express” for Ole Miss, and “Bulldog Blitz “ and “The Dawgpound Rock” for Mississippi State, Ace has discovered a unique niche he is now in the process of mining across the nation with his University Jams.

After scoring a songwriting/production deal in New York City in 2007, Steve left Mississippi again to spend two years in his native Ohio and then back again to Nashville. He now divides his time between Nashville and Jackson, where his parents still live.

Ace is available to perform his vast repertoire of originals, blues, and classic hits--live guitar and lead vocals performed over his own professionally produced backing tracks--for clubs, parties, and special events. An evening with Ace Acker is an evening of rollicking entertainment and dazzling musical skills that will satisfy any listener in the audience...drunk or sober! (And if it's a more low key affair, Ace has plenty of mellow acoustic music in his trick bag, too).

What to Expect

Typical Gig Duration: 60 - 180 minutes

Musically, I treat my audience to an eclectlic blend of acoustic and electric guitar-based music. I do classic hits from the 60's, 70's, 90's, and today (not so big on 80's music). My forte' is my guitar playing. I came up through the ranks in the Steel Valley, a 150 mile long belt full of incredible musicians in the 60's and 70's, from Cleveland to Pittsburgh and all points inbetween. I am generally ranked just behind The Eagles' Joe Walsh and Christian recording artist Phil Keaggy (one of the world's finest guitarists) as one the three best rock guitarists to ever emerge from that region.

The advantage of growing up in such a fertile musical environment was that I learned stagecraft at an early age. I learned how to entertain, as well as play and sing, lessons that I carry with me on the stage as Ace Acker, the solo performer.

I have an innate sense of what is appropriate to perform at any given moment during the event. If low-key acoustic music is called for, that's what I do. If the audience wants to dance, dance music is what they get. If they want to rock, I rock.

As a professional songwriter, I do sprinkle my sets with original songs. Most people enjoy them. The cover songs I perform are all songs I personally love. Because of my technical prowess on the guitar, and as a producer and arranger of my own backing tracks, you will hear many songs from Ace that you will seldom, if ever, hear from any other "one man band"...or any band, for that matter.

Additional Notes:
I have a very simple stage setup. I can be in and set up in 20 minutes and out in 20 minutes. I ask only for Coke or Dr. Pepper to drink. Currently, I do not carry my own lighting, so it is helpful to set up in a corner or an area of the stage that is well-lit. My P.A. system is great for small to medium size rooms. For larger venues I may need to rent a larger system or use the house system. That's about it.
