Mime or pantomime is a theatrical genre of performance art, involving acting by a mime artist through body and hand motions, without use of speech. Traditionally mimes are thought of as having a uniform costume that includes black and white horizontal striped clothes, suspenders, a formal black top hat or beret, formal white gloves to highlight the motion of the hands, and white face paint, with some accents in black. Mimes, however, like other performing theatre artists, often use a diversity of costuming ideas, and the stereotypical look is perhaps as equally embraced as it is rejected by mime artists. When you hire a mime, you may experience a set of storytelling vignettes, acted out without words, or perhaps a comedic routine. Marcel Marceau was perhaps the most well-known modern mime.
