About
Yamila is a Cuban-born singer, dancer, and actress whose work embodies the vibrancy and emotional depth of Cuban music and culture. Her artistic journey began at an early age when she was accepted into Cuba’s prestigious National Ballet School. After five years of classical ballet training and performing as a soloist, she continued her studies at the National School of Performing Arts, where she graduated with honors in music, dance, and acting.
Her talent quickly captured the attention of audiences in Cuba, where she became a television icon through the hit shows “Para Sentir Amor” and “Contacto.” The success of these programs launched her international career, leading to extensive tours across Europe. In Spain she appeared on numerous television programs, performed in major concert halls throughout Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia, and expanded her work as an actress, singer, and host.
In 2000 Yamila settled in Miami and continued her television career on Univision’s “Sábado Gigante,” “Caliente,” and “Los Metiches,” later co-hosting “Luna Verde” for América TV. Her versatility later brought her to Los Angeles, where she worked on American network series including NBC’s Kingpin, TNT’s Southland, CBS’s Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, and Showtime’s Shameless, as well as Spanish-language productions for Telemundo and TV Azteca.
Yamila became the first Cuban artist to perform at the prestigious Oscar Governors Ball, and she has appeared at prominent cultural institutions, festivals, Disneyland California Adventure and venues such as LACMA, The Mayan, The Century Club, Rumba Room, and numerous Latin American heritage events. Also, she has performed at The Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Her discography includes nine studio albums. The song “Guajira” from her album No Alcanzan Palabras Para Ti was featured in the film Hidden Moon, and she co-produced the soundtrack for the PBS documentary Weekend in Havana, in collaboration with Latin Grammy winners Yalil Guerra and Cristian Robles.
Currently, Yamila is promoting her nine album and developing a series of new creative projects including a daily broadcast show and a multi-year residency in Las Vegas.
