What to expect
When you come to a James Lantiegne magic show, expect more than a series of tricks. Expect an experience filled with mystery, laughter, audience participation, and moments that feel impossible.
James combines classic sleight-of-hand, visual magic, humor, storytelling, and real connection with the audience. His shows are designed to be engaging for everyone in the room, whether it is a family event, private party, corporate gathering, community celebration, fundraiser, or intimate close-up setting.
Audience members are not just spectators; they become part of the show. Cards are chosen, objects vanish, minds are read, surprises appear, and people find themselves laughing, reacting, and wondering, “How did that happen?”
James’s style is warm, approachable, and family-friendly, while still delivering strong magic that amazes adults as much as children. His goal is not simply to fool the audience, but to create shared moments of wonder that people will remember and talk about long after the show is over.
Whether performing close-up magic right in front of your eyes, strolling from group to group, or presenting a full parlor or stage show, James brings professionalism, personality, and a genuine love for the art of magic to every performance.
At a James Lantiegne show, you can expect laughter, astonishment, audience interaction, and a reminder that sometimes the impossible is closer than you think.
About
James Lantiegne is a magician, entertainer, educator, entrepreneur, and longtime advocate for the art of magic. As the owner of White Rabbit Magic Shop in Santa Paula, California, James has created more than a retail magic shop; he has built a gathering place for magicians, performers, students, families, and anyone who believes in the wonder of live entertainment.
For James, magic has never been just about tricks. It is about connection, storytelling, confidence, creativity, and the ability to make people believe, even for a moment, that something impossible just happened right in front of them. His work as a magician spans close-up magic, strolling entertainment, parlor performances, stage shows, educational programs, lectures, and community events.
Together with his son, Joshua Lantiegne, James co-owns White Rabbit Magic and co-hosts White Rabbit’s Magic Talk, a podcast dedicated to the business, performance, products, history, and future of magic. The podcast has earned international recognition, being voted the #3 must-listen magic podcast in the world by FeedSpot. Through Magic Talk, James and Joshua bring their father-and-son dynamic, real-world experience, humor, and honest opinions to conversations with magicians, creators, and fans of the art.
James is also the Executive Director of The House of MAGIC Foundation for the Arts, a nonprofit organization committed to supporting the arts through the hearts of the community. Through the Foundation, James has developed programs that use magic as a tool for education, healing, mentorship, and personal growth. His work includes free magic camps for youth, after-school and homeschool programs, community performances, and educational shows that combine entertainment with meaningful life lessons.
One of James’s major educational initiatives is the Magic Mentor program, a STEAM-based magic curriculum designed to teach students science, technology, engineering, art, and math through hands-on magical effects. By using magic to explain real-world principles such as forces, perception, patterns, psychology, engineering, and problem-solving, James helps students experience learning in a way that feels exciting, interactive, and unforgettable.
James has also used magic in therapeutic and rehabilitative settings, working with rehabilitation centers to help patients develop fine motor skills, cognitive function, focus, and confidence. This approach reflects his belief that magic can do more than entertain; it can help people heal, grow, communicate, and rediscover a sense of possibility.
As a performer, James brings warmth, humor, and polish to every audience. Whether performing for private parties, corporate events, community celebrations, fundraisers, family audiences, or intimate close-up settings, his style blends classic magical mystery with approachable, engaging entertainment. He understands that the strongest magic is not just about fooling the audience, but about creating moments they will talk about long after the show is over.
In addition to performing, James is a producer and promoter of live magic experiences. Through White Rabbit Magic and The House of MAGIC Foundation, he has helped create shows, lectures, workshops, and performance opportunities that support both working professionals and young emerging magicians. Events such as Spellbound: At the Table, the White Rabbit Lecture Series, and other live magic experiences continue his mission of keeping magic alive, accessible, and thriving in the community.
James’s background in nonprofit leadership, marketing, business, photography, entertainment, and education gives him a unique perspective within the magic world. He understands both the artistic side of performance and the practical side of building an audience, creating a brand, producing events, and sustaining a creative business.
At the heart of everything James does is a simple belief: magic matters. It inspires imagination, builds confidence, brings families together, teaches valuable lessons, and creates shared moments of wonder. Whether behind the counter at White Rabbit Magic, behind the microphone on Magic Talk, on stage performing, teaching a child their first trick, or building new platforms like The Magic Warren, James continues to dedicate his life to sharing the mystery, joy, and power of magic with others.
Additional booking notes
James Lantiegne’s magic show is designed to be flexible and can be adapted for private parties, schools, theaters, banquet rooms, restaurants, corporate events, fundraisers, and community celebrations. To help create the best possible experience, the following technical notes are recommended.
Performance Area
A clean, open performance area is preferred. The exact size depends on the type of show, but a minimum performance space of approximately 8 feet wide by 6 feet deep is recommended for smaller shows. Larger stage or parlor shows may require additional space.
The performance area should be visible to all guests and should not be placed in a high-traffic area, near loud kitchen doors, directly in front of restrooms, or where people will be walking between the performer and the audience.
For best results, the audience should be seated facing the performance area.
Sound
For small, intimate shows, James may be able to provide his own sound system when arranged in advance.
For larger rooms, outdoor events, school assemblies, corporate events, theaters, or banquet halls, a sound system is strongly recommended. Ideally, the venue should provide:
A working PA system
A wireless headset or lapel microphone
A way to play music or sound cues, if needed
Access to power near the performance area
Good sound is extremely important. If the audience cannot clearly hear the performer, they will not be able to fully enjoy the show.
Lighting
The performance area should be well-lit. The audience should be able to clearly see James, the props, and any volunteers who come up to assist.
Avoid placing the show in a dark corner, in front of bright windows, or in lighting conditions where the audience is looking into glare. For evening or outdoor events, additional lighting may be needed.
Setup Time
James typically requires setup time before the performance. The amount of time depends on the show format.
For close-up or strolling magic, setup may be minimal.
For parlor, stage, school, or family shows, please allow approximately 30 to 60 minutes for setup before the scheduled performance time.
A short reset or breakdown period may also be required after the show.
Parking and Load-In
Convenient parking and easy access to the performance area are appreciated, especially for shows requiring sound, tables, props, or larger equipment.
Please provide advance details regarding:
Parking location
Loading area
Stairs, elevators, or long walking distances
Security gates or check-in procedures
Venue contact person upon arrival
Outdoor Events
Outdoor shows can be performed, but they require extra planning. Magic is often affected by wind, heat, uneven ground, noise, and lighting.
For outdoor performances, a shaded and level performance area is strongly recommended. Grass, dirt, wind, direct sun, or heavy background noise may limit what can be performed.
If possible, an indoor backup location should be available in case of weather issues.
Audience Seating
The show works best when the audience is seated and focused on the performance. For children’s shows, kids may sit on the floor near the front with adults seated behind them.
For banquet or dinner events, the show should ideally take place after meals are served or during a time when food service will not interrupt the performance.
Servers, cleanup crews, bar service, announcements, or music should be paused during the show whenever possible.
Volunteers and Audience Participation
Many of James’s shows include audience participation. Volunteers may be invited to assist with routines, but no one is embarrassed or put in an uncomfortable position.
The goal is to create fun, memorable moments where the audience feels included and celebrated.
Show Conditions
To provide the strongest performance, please avoid scheduling the show during major distractions such as meal service, raffles, auctions, loud music, sports screens, or heavy foot traffic.
Magic works best when the audience can relax, focus, and enjoy the experience together.
Final Note
James’s show is flexible and can be adjusted to fit the venue, audience, and event style. Good visibility, clear sound, proper lighting, and a focused audience will help ensure the strongest possible magical experience.
