Reminiscent of the hard luck storytelling of Tom Waits and the tarnished spiritual imagery of Leonard Cohen, Westerly writes American folk music for the new era. Mixing gospel, Americana, blues, jazz, and folk, the two piece band consists of Bay Area natives Jaylene Chung on fiddle and keyboards and Sterling Spence on guitar.
Before this project, the two were members of The Coyote Bandits and toured across America, raised over $60, 000 for a nonprofit offering medical care to Micronesia, and gave a TEDx talk about their unique songwriting. With Westerly, they have just released their first self-titled album and would consider it an honor if you would take a moment to give it a listen.

What to Expect
We perform mostly original music with occasional jazz and classic rock covers. We put out a lot of energy and make a lot of noise. We want to get people up and dancing.
Reminiscent of the hard luck storytelling of Tom Waits and the tarnished spiritual imagery of Leonard Cohen, Westerly writes American folk rock for the new era. Mixing indie rock, gospel, americana, blues, jazz, and folk, the band consists of Bay Area natives Sterling Spence (guitar and vocals), Leah Woodard (vocals), Brandon Seinturier (percussion), Scott Wilson (electric guitar), Chance Cochran (slide guitar and keys), and Gordon Allen (fiddle and vocals).
Westerly was founded by multi-instrumentalist Sterling Spence who sings and plays guitar, bass, and mandolin. Spence starting songwriting and performing at 10 years-old and has since toured the US with his first band the Coyote Bandits and performed throughout Italy with the band Dirty Cello. After finishing college in Riverside, CA, he moved back to the San Francisco Bay and formed Westerly with several members from the Coyote Bandits and new friends. They have released two albums, sold out Bay Area venues, and received airplay on KPFA and KALX.
Westerly combines roots influences with a raw, rock emphasis and deals with the themes of lost love and substance abuse while remaining rooted in the San Francisco tradition of making both peace and love.
Additional Booking Notes
We have three set-ups. First, Sterling performs as a solo act. If you're looking for a singer-songwriter vibe, he's got you covered. We also play as a trio with guitar, violin, and 3 vocals. This is perfect for smaller settings and sit down audiences. It includes our Leah Woodard, our jazz singer. We've found its pretty nice in cafes or wine bars. Finally, we love to bring the full 6 piece band with a much bigger rock sound. If you have the space, we think you'll love it. This sound gives us the full range of jazz, funk, rock, and folk while helping to make everything more dance-able.
Influences & Inspiration
We love Americana music and good song writers. We're a little bit like the Eagles and a little bit like the Head and the Heart.
