“Abundantly Talented” (Opera Canada) Alexa Frankian, a rising star in the world of opera and art song, is known for her captivating performances and generous collaborations. Canadian-born, ethnically diverse, and proud of her heritage, Alexa carries the bloodlines and experiences of nine nations. Her passion for music was evident from a young age, and she began her formal training in 2018 at the University of Toronto, where she earned her Bachelor of Music in Performance.
At only 22 years old, Alexa has already made significant strides in her career, singing Verdi, Wagner, and Puccini. She is currently in her first-year Artist Diploma studies at The Royal Conservatory of Music’s Glenn Gould School, under the tutelage of Stephanie Bogle and David Eliakis. Recently, Alexa made her Koerner Hall debut and completed her first full opera role as the Older Woman in the opera Flight, leaving audiences mesmerized with her powerful voice and emotional range. Alexa’s love for art song has also led her to explore this genre extensively, allowing her to showcase her versatility as a performer.
Her talent and dedication have not gone unnoticed, and she has been praised for her ability to connect with audiences on a deep and personal level. Her warm and engaging stage presence, combined with her impeccable technique, make her a true force to be reckoned with.
Alexa has also performed and recorded in a variety of productions, including Kwanyin in Chinese Canadian Dora-nominated Opera The Monkiest King, Shepherd Boy in Tosca, Pagliacci, La Bohème, The Tenderland, Bas Sheve (Yiddish Opera North-American Premiere), Beethoven’s 9th, Carmina Burana, and Verdi’s Requiem choruses. She has also been a featured repeat soloist with the Milton Philharmonic Orchestra and a generous fundraising featured guest artist in Atlanta, Burlington, Milton, and Toronto.
Master-classes with renowned musicians such as Martin Katz, Jake Heggie, Steven Blier, Warren Jones, Elliot Madore, Joyce El-Khoury, Ambur Braid, César Ulloa, and Christine Goerke, have further ignited her passion for the Puccini, Strauss, Verdi, Wagner and brilliant contemporary repertoire. As she continues to hone her craft and develop her rich, unique voice, Alexa looks forward to collaborating with fellow musicians, recognizing that music is a vessel that connects us as people and enables us to share our rich cultures, while soothing the soul!
