Vanessa Joy Walker
Overview
NO MATTER WHAT PEOPLE ARE FACING, THERE ARE GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES.
As a national speaker, healthcare strategist, and two-time cancer survivor, I help audiences transform crisis into purpose and resilience into leadership. With an MPH in Leadership from UNC Chapel Hill and 15+ years working at the intersection of lived experience and impact, I bring expert insights and authentic storytelling to every stage.
Whether speaking at national conferences, training on patient engagement, facilitating difficult conversations, or serving on steering committees like Psych Congress—I help people reframe crises to move from surviving to thriving using evidence-based frameworks and deeply human stories.

What to expect
WHAT YOU GET:
When you hire me, you get a speaker who brings both strategic expertise and authentic storytelling—someone who can command a stage, hold a room, and leave your audience inspired to take action.
I deliver customized keynotes, workshops, and facilitations on:
• Survivorship and resilience in the workplace
• Crisis management and leadership
• Burnout prevention for high-pressure teams
• Creating cultures of belonging
• Finding joy and purpose in challenging work
• Advocacy, voice, and authentic engagement
My approach blends evidence-based frameworks with deeply human stories. I talk transparently about life's most difficult seasons while challenging audiences to reframe how they see crisis—not as something that cancels out contributions, but as something that can magnify impact and deepen empathy.
Whether speaking to 200 federal employees, 3,000 conference attendees, or facilitating difficult conversations for leadership teams, I meet audiences where they are and help them see new possibilities in their challenges.
WHAT CLIENTS SAY:
"The highlight of the program was our keynote speaker, Vanessa Walker, who knew exactly the struggles of our patients, as she herself is a survivor."
— Nicole Sang, NYC Health + Hospitals
"Whatever struggles you may be experiencing, chances are, Vanessa has been there, too. Her honesty, humor, and commitment to service will help you wade through the struggle, feel all the feelings, and blaze a trail toward finding joy even when you're smack dab in the thick of it."
— Catherine Wigginton, Author, Director, Storyteller
"Vanessa is a powerful voice for today's generation."
— Sarah Duncan, The Exchange Conference
About
I help people see crisis as a catalyst rather than a barrier.
I've served as Co-Founder of the Breast Cancer Early Detection Coalition, Founding Leader of Women's Health Advocates, Policy & Engagement Advisor for the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, and Lead Patient Advocate on the Psych Congress Steering Committee. I've delivered 100+ CME presentations to clinician audiences, spoken at Congressional briefings, and represented organizations at international health policy summits.
I've spoken to audiences of 3,000+ across the country—from national healthcare conferences to faith-based gatherings to corporate events. I speak on survivorship and the workplace, train advocates and executives on authentic engagement, and personally support individuals navigating health, career, and life crises.
My expertise spans survivorship and resilience, crisis management and leadership, burnout prevention (especially for healthcare professionals), patient and clinician education, advocacy and coalition building, and creating cultures of belonging. Before healthcare, I was a Director of Operations and Chief of Staff—roles that taught me how to manage complexity, build systems, and think strategically under pressure.
I've been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, K-Love Radio, and more. No matter the season, I'm always searching for joy. I'm a new resident of Washington, D.C., and can usually be found eating, singing, or exploring the world with my loves, Pepper Joy (the family dog!) and Mr. Walker (the hubby).
