May 22, 2026Choir and Bagpipes! Who knew?!
Johnny is simply incredible! I am an elementary school music teacher who came to him with a wild proposal to accompany my choir of 96 children on a Scottish folk song, The Skye Boat song.
He met with my assistant directors and I to come up with a plan of how to coordinate the flow of the song and balance the vocals and the pipes. He is an amazing collaborator and had a lot of great ideas of how to make it come together.
He came to one of our rehearsals and was so gracious and so kind with the students. They absolutely loved interacting with him!
Our whole community was enchanted with him when he played for the concert and opened for us and then performed the number we had worked on together. He is a very eloquent and engaging speaker and a master at his instrument! He’s one of those people who is just a joy to work with and we look forward to collaborating with him again on future musical projects!

Johnny was such a wonderful part of my mother’s graveside service. He was thoughtful and played the right songs for each part of the service. I would recommend him to anyone who wants a Piper for any situation.

December 1, 2025True Talent - True Professional - Truly great Human-being!
Our mother passed away unexpectedly and to our surprise her last written wishes for her funeral service included having a bagpiper. This was a pleasant surprise for our family, however, we didn't know where to start to secure one, (especially on a late Saturday night evening). Johnny Miner and his services had great reviews and his website and credentials were very impressive. I filled out the brief questionnaire, including the date and occasion - thinking I wouldn't hear back until the weekend was over, and to my surprise and great relief, Johnny called me right away and offered his condolences asking how he could help. He'll never know the weight he lifted from our shoulders by being so kind, compassionate, helpful ,and willing to offer his talents to fulfill our mother's dying wish. We opted for him to play as our mother was carried out of the funeral services and into the hurst as well as at the gravesite. By the time we were gathered at the cemetery, Johnny was already in position, dressed professionally in the traditional kilt and clothing showing the upmost respect to our mother and our grieving family members playing a medley of her favorite songs. If you are fortunate to book with Johnny Miner, your event will be enhanced and stress free. He knows what he is doing and allows you to take care of all of the other details in a difficult situation without a worry as to his part. Johnny Miner played the pipes for a funeral for my father. He was professional and flexible. He played in front of the church and at the dedication of the gravesite. He played many of the songs we requested. He came dressed in the traditional Scottish.

You won't find a nicer or more professional bagpiper than Johnny. From start to finish he was a pleasure to work with. I was unfamiliar with bagpipe music and he was patient with me as I worked out what I wanted him to play at my mother's funeral. And it's not just music that he brings. The way he moves while he plays, slow and graceful, and the traditional Scottish dress that he wears adds dignity and beauty. You won't regret hiring Johnny.

What to expect
Funeral Service:
Bagpipes at funeral service are powerful, emotional, and memorable. My typical service includes playing prelude as people arrive at the graveside, again as the pallbearers carry the casket to the grave-site, and again at the end of the service. Traditionally, the piper will slowly walk away into the distance while playing. This symbolizes leading the soul home and is always a powerful moment. Additional options include playing at the chapel or funeral home at the service itself. This could be a special musical number during the service or leading the casket to the hearse at the conclusion of the service. Although these options are typical, each event is unique and I will work closely with you to make sure my performance is exactly what you are looking for.
Some traditional tunes for a funeral service include Amazing Grace, Danny Boy, Be Still my Soul, Abide with Me, Going Home, Scotland the Brave, Skye Boat Song, and Flowers of the Forest just to name just a few. Audio samples of these and others can be found on my profile page. These are just a sampling of the many tunes in my repertoire. I would be happy to discuss the musical selection with you to ensure that it's what you are looking for. I also love taking special requests. If the song can be played on the bagpipes I will learn it!
Weddings:
Bagpipes at a wedding are a traditional and memorable way to celebrate your special day. There are many different options on how to incorporate bagpipes into a wedding including playing the bride down the isle during the processional and/or recessional, playing wedding luncheon, as a surprise or planning musical number during the reception, or as part of the grand exit at the end of the night. These are just a few option, but the possibilities are endless!
Some popular tunes for weddings include: Highland Cathedral, Scotland the Brave, or a lively jig! There are many other options that I would be happy to discuss with you.
Parties, events, educational events, etc:
Bagpipes can make any event one you will never forget! From birthday surprises, to family reunions, golf tournaments, retirement home recitals, church events, school demonstrations, corporate events, and everything in between. The possibilities are endless! I would love to discuss your event with you. Have played at over 1000 events, I have done just about everything you can imagine. Playing the bagpipes has been a passion of mine for many years and is a big part of who I am. I love sharing this passion with others. I have had nearly 30 years experience, playing successfully at over 1000 events of all types. Having received instruction for some of the world's best bagpipers, I have competed as a highly ranked competitive solo bagpiper as well as being a part of one of the highest ranking competitive pipe bands in the western United States for two decades. I have traveled all over North America playing the bagpipes, and have even traveled to Scotland to compete at the World Pipe Band Championships. Piping is a life long passion of mine and it is a pleasure to share this special music with others.
