URBAN LATIN JAZZ ENSEMBLE
OPERATION STATEMENT

The Urban Latin Jazz Ensemble (ULJE) is a musical performance entity registered with the New York City Kings County Clerk's office. ULJE operates under the musical direction and proprietorship of Joaquin Rodriguez (member of The American Federation of Musicians Local 802 Associated Musicians of Greater New York/AFL-CIO). ULJE is a “Latin-jazz” band that primarily provides live instrumental music. For more information on ULJE visit (link hidden).

Service provided: ULJE’s typical personnel/instrumentation includes a tenor/soprano saxophonist, a pianist/keyboardist, a conga/percussionist, and a bassist. ULJE will provide an additional percussionist (timbalero/drummer) for your event - or make other reasonable format adjustments (perform as a piano trio, etc.) at your request. ULJE does not use “tracks” or pre-recorded mediums. The repertoire consists of standard Jazz and Latin tunes, as well as R&B, Classical, and Pop music set to an array of Afro-Latino styles.

Special note: As a “live performance” entity, ULJE is "statutorily" privy to “nonexclusive rights to” perform music licensed by ASCAP, BMI and SESAC, but does not have “mechanical” rights to record or publish these performances in any medium - audio or video (except by Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act, 1976 “fair use” clause). As such, ULJE cannot advocate for nor protect any unauthorized “recordings” and/or publications of our performances in social – or other media that are made and published by event attendees, including guests, venue employees, press/journalists, etc. Such persons would be directly responsible to the respective publishers and licensing organizations for any mechanical license fees, penalties or fines in connection with such "recordings/publications."

Fees: ULJE’s performance fees vary. Every effort is made to provide professional quality music to our clients and in so doing, we strive to provide “fair pay” to ULJE’s musicians. However, 'special rates' for non-for profit organizations, educational institutions, benefits, and private parties are considered, depending on travel distance, type of event, whether the event is on a weekday/night or weekend, the number of “guests” expected, etc.

Deposit: A fifty percent non-refundable deposit is usually required and the balance is due immediately upon completion of the engagement. ULJE will accept a twenty-five percent non-refundable deposit under special circumstances (i.e., non-for profit events, benefits, etc.). You will receive an invoice for your deposit when you’ve indicated an interest in hiring ULJE.

Travel fees: Waived for the first seventy-five miles from New York City. Venue will be expected to provide parking.

Arrival/Departure: ULJE’s arrival/departure policy entails arrival of one hour for set-up/sound-check before “guests” are scheduled to arrive, and departure immediately after “break-down.”

Insurance: For most events, ULJE is covered by “performance liability insurance” for $1,000,000 with “additional insureds” as needed. Please let us know immediately if this is a “requirement” for your venue.

Cancellation Policy: Please note that because of administrative and preparation costs, your deposit is non-refundable unless the event is cancelled by ULJE. In the event of a cancellation, you will not be required to pay the “balance” regardless of who cancels the agreement. However, all parties should make every effort to inform the other of any cancelation within a reasonable time-frame.

Miscellaneous: Venues must have clearly marked emergency exists and a working building safety evacuation plan.

Note: For safety purposes, although ULJE encourages guests to dance, we request that all venue guests/employees maintain a distance of at least five feet away from the performance platform, musicians and equipment during all performances. Please, absolutely no unattended children near the platform or musical equipment at any time.
