Great!

Uasuf was a excellent for our event. He had a nice combination of music and background. It was a very well rounded performance and everyone was very engaged in his performance. We would definitely hire him again for our event. Could be better with communication leading up to event, but all in all a really great experience.

What to expect

Uasuf Gueye tailors his performance depending on the type of event and the environment. Performance options include:

1. Solo artist performance as background or ambiance music and/or special features to formal events
2. 3 to 6-piece band of musicians live set – drumset, keyboard/piano, guitar, bass, brass/woodwind, singer
3. The Beauty of African Rhythm: An Introduction to Traditional West African Instruments: This is an interactive and educational lecture demonstration that introduces participants to different instruments that belong to the Manding culture of West Africa.
4. Traditional African instrument workshop packages are available for educational programs (available for schools and companies): This is a more hands-on experience where participants will learn the basic techniques for playing instruments like djembe, dun dun, bala, etc.

About

Uasuf Gueye, of Washington, DC, is a nationally acclaimed musician and artist. He belongs to a family of Nguewel/Diali, or oral historians and musicians. He began his study and performance of Manding and Wolof music at a very young age.

Uasuf is a dynamic djembe and dundun drummer as well as a skilled instrument craftsman. He also plays the 21-key Bala, which he learned from master artists of the Manding tradition of West Africa.

Uasuf has dedicated his life to the task of becoming an ambassador of African culture to the world. The catalyst for such a responsibility is the passion he has for reconnecting those of the African Diaspora to one another. His repertoire as a recording and performing artist ranges from traditional songs from the 13th century to contemporary original compositions incorporating hip-hop, blues and jazz riffs.
