Trent Boswell
Overview
Trent Boswell (a.k.a. Magus) is a sentient, extra-planar being of indeterminate origin. Shapeshifting and bizarre, it is best not to look directly at it, or to attempt a mind meld. The most advisable course of action, if confronted with this entity is to stand idly by and listen to the strange and soothing sounds it makes. The protocol is to applaud at the conclusion of these exhibitions and to purchase small plastic discs from it, which it refers to as CDs. It becomes hostile when offerings of standard issue currency are not promptly placed in the box marked TIPS.

Trent was at the event 2 hours early to set up and prepare. His music list that he custom prepared for me was awesome and he sounded great -like a well seasoned guitar player. Highly recommend him to anyone who appreciates classic rock -

November 15, 2018Celebration of Life memorial
Magus provided background guitar and singing for my husband's Celebration of Life party. (Yes, he wanted a party, not a somber event.) Magus is a very talented musician, and could easily have been the star of the event; but he kept the volume low and the music familiar (popular favorites from the '50s - '80s, as I had requested), which allowed everyone to talk and share stories. He even learned a few new songs that I requested. I would heartily recommend Magus, as a very versatile musician, for any function.

Thank you so much, Marty. It was great to play for you and your people and for him. I’m pretty sure he would have appreciated it 😊

What to expect
Typically, people hire me for shows that are 1 to 4 sets of music. A set is 45-50 minutes long. I take a roughly 10 minute break for each set, so I can rest my voice, get some water or use the restroom, and maybe talk with the guests.
I can play original music all night, because I have that many original songs. I can also play all covers, because I have played many hundreds of gigs that only wanted cover songs. Or, I can play a mixture of both. My preference is to play mostly original music, with a select few covers, but it’s your event, and I will stick to whatever you want, as closely as I possibly can.
The cover songs that I play are usually classic rock, folk, blues, and pop. My music taste is extremely varied, but some of my major influences are The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jane’s Addiction, Jimi Hendrix, etc.
I was a jazz major in college, so I can also do all instrumental jazz guitar. Although, I don’t have four hours worth of that type of material. But I can do 1-2 hours of jazz, maybe three, at most.
About
Legends tell of strange and reclusive creature, a singer/songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist, and the author of quite a few books of weird poetry. One obscure passage, found in the yellowing pages of a dusty old book in a forgotten library at the edge of the world, puts it like this:
“Trent Boswell is a thing that once blinked briefly in and out of existence. It made noises and gestures while it lasted. The exact nature of its demise is unclear. Some sources say it collapsed beneath the weight of entropy and time. Other tertiary facts suggest the possibility that it was destroyed by a predator, an accident, or perhaps even by itself. The truth of the matter is unknown. Luckily, no one cares.”
For this website, people might need a bit more grounded explanation and less fever dream. So, anyone who is curious should just know that Trent Boswell played guitar in jazz ensemble every semester while in college. He was in various bands since the age of 18. For a long time, he subsisted mostly on the coins thrown at him while playing live gigs. He taught guitar and bass lessons to anyone who would sit still long enough, and he did live sound engineering for other bands.
To make ends meet, he was well-supported by the kindness of the local townsfolk, parishioners, and angels disguised as strangers passing through.
Three albums of original music are currently available on all the major music streaming services, like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon, and many more. The first album is called Flagship. The second is Something in the Air, and the third is called Area 25.
Listen at your own risk.
You can look up the evidence on YouTube, under Trent Boswell. There a playlists for original music, cover songs, and poetry.
You’ll want the playlists called “Original Music by Trent Boswell,” and “Cover Songs.”

These things help spread this bizarre yarn, so that others, too, may marvel and wonder at the peculiarities of this folktale.
Additional booking notes
I prefer to play gigs that the PA system is already available. That way, I can just show up with my guitar, and get to work. I do have most everything needed for a show. However, at the moment, I don’t have any speakers. Hopefully, I’ll get some new speakers soon.
I usually use four speakers; two main speakers, usually 12” each, rated at 8 ohms, and providing anything from 400-1,000 watts. I typically “daisy chain” one to the other, meaning that the inputs on the back should be interchangeable as inputs and outputs.
It’s nice to have some stands to raise the main speakers up above the level of the crowd. Sturdy tables will do fine in some situations, as long as no one will be bumping into them.
The monitor speakers can be exactly the same as the mains, but they will be on the floor, facing me. They’re so I can hear what I’m doing on stage.
Any music store offers rentals on this stuff, like Guitar Center, and whatever local instrument retailers you have in your area. I will try to work with you on my fee, if you have to rent speakers and stands separately.
