Overview

I'm a traditional Scottish bagpiper with 25 years of experience playing in a variety of settings, from the National Cathedral in DC to festivals throughout the Southeast and teaching smallpipes workshops. In addition to the Great Highland Pipes, I also play the Border pipes (indoor volume), penny whistle, banjo, and sing traditional ballads. Being a multi -instrumentalist gives me the flexibility to put together the right performance for you!

Tracy was the perfect piper for our Scottish program!

We loved having Tracy Jenkins perform for our music series. What a beautiful piper! He showcased the various instruments so well and explained each of them them, gave some history and poetic backgrounds, did both traditional/familiar and newly worked songs, sang the songs and got the audience engaged in singing along and asking intriguing questions. It was exactly what we wanted and the audience loved it. Thank you Tracy!

What to expect

I offer solo performances on bagpipes and other instruments. I can also put together a duo or small ensemble on request.

In addition to the Great Highland pipes, I also offer Border pipes and whistles better suited to indoor spaces.

About

My piping journey began on the Great Highland bagpipes in the Washington Scottish Pipe Band, which I played with from age 13 to 30. Along the way, I branched out into smallpiping and started going to Irish seasons, picking up the penny whistle. I studied piping further at the Upper Potomac and Cairdeas smallpiping workshops for many years, focusing on the rich well of Scottish and Irish music outside of the pipe band setting. I've played for many years in informal jam sessions and several folk bands, including Séan Heely and the Reel Sisters.

Currently, I play regularly with the sessions at Boyd's Jig and Reel in Knoxville (Thursday nights) and perform at festivals with a rotating group of musical friends.
