Overview

Hello! I'm Tim Rechen, I play bass trombone and compose. I play just about all genres including classical, jazz, pop, and classic rock as well as chamber music and show tunes. For right now, most of my compositions classical music, primarily bass trombone solos accompanied by piano (I'm still branching out into other genres and instrumentations).

What to expect

Due to the wide variety of genres and ensembles I play in, it is difficult to say. When contacted with details of the performance, I can provide more information on this subject.

About

I'm currently studying bass trombone performance and jazz studies at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. I will graduate in the spring of 2018. I've been playing trombone since 2006 (5th grade). What to expect from me depends on what you ask of me because I play such a wide variety of genres. If asked to perform solo, I will have a set-list prepared unless specific songs are requested, in which case I will make arrangements of those songs. All music will be memorized, so I won't need a music stand. Sound system will not be necessary. The only things I will bring (and the only things I will need) are my instrument, an instrument stand, a water bottle, and a small cup to collect condensation that builds up in my slide. If asked to perform as part of an ensemble, I will prepare my part before attending rehearsal, and also look up and listen to various recordings of the repertoire. I would bring appropriate attire, an instrument stand, a pencil, and a music stand if necessary.

Influences and inspiration

My jazz playing is very heavily influenced by Ken Fischer (former director), Carl Knox (former director) Sonny Stitt and Bill Reichenbach. My classical playing is influenced by George Sanders (former teacher), Lisa Abel (former director), and John Rojak (current teacher, and bass trombonist in the American Brass Quintet). My compositional style is influenced by Eric Ewazen, Frank Ticheli, and Henry Fillmore.
