Simon & Garfunkel meets The Civil Wars. We are a folk-roots duo that perform original songs culled from our small-town roots featuring close harmonies. We have toured Canada, the US, and Europe, and played festivals from Halifax to Thunder Bay. We've released two albums, won a Canadian Folk Music Award for New/Emerging Artist (2015), and multiple songwriting awards.
We also have a full band available for larger shows.

The Young Novelists provide an entertaining show of original music, and are able to bring their own sound system if necessary. For a small additional fee they are open to learning cover songs for any event.
The Young Novelists create contemporary folk songs that marry their effortless harmonies with darkly poetic lyrics and exquisitely crafted hooks. Their third album "In City & Country" features songs about 10 small towns in Ontario, and has been described as “a lush-sounding feast” (Penguin Eggs) and “emotional, melodic music that variously reminds me of the Jayhawks and Richard and Linda Thompson” (No Depression). Their previous album landed them a Canadian Folk Music Award for New/Emerging Artist, a nomination for Vocal Group of the Year, and multiple songwriting awards. They have toured across Canada, the United States, and in Europe, often with their young son in tow. Their signature show features confessional storytelling about their songs and travels, singalongs, and the unique sound of bowed glockenspiel.
If a sound system is best for the event, The Young Novelists will need 2 vocal microphones, 1 instrument microphone, and a DI box for an acoustic guitar. However, they have also played numerous house concerts where there is no sound system at all and the performance is fully acoustic. Please be aware that this only works for specific kinds of events (like house concerts).
