About
The Les Elgart Orchestra “The Band With THAT Sound!” is one of the few famous “Big Bands” from the 1950s / 1960s still in popular demand!
The orchestra has and continues to entertain nationally & internationally, having performed at such prestigious locations such as the Hollywood Palladium of Los Angeles, the Casino Club of Chicago, The Fontainebleau Hotel of Miami, The Everglades Club of Palm Beach, and the Rainbow Room of New York City. The orchestra has also performed for proms at many of the colleges and universities throughout the United States. They’ve had the honor to provide dance music for US Presidents and Governors. The Les Elgart Orchestra has worked in Brazil, United Kingdom and throughout Europe as well. They also performed on the Norwegian Cruise Lines, the famous Mississippi Delta Queen, and the Holland America Cruise lines.
Les Elgart wrote the familiar theme for the popular TV show American Bandstand (“Bandstand Boogie”) and the band was the award winner in Variety, Billboard and Cashbox polls as the Number #1 Dance Band in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s.
The orchestra has recorded over fifty major albums with Columbia Records, appeared on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, The Jackie Gleason Show and was on a TV episode of ”Big Bands At Disneyland” hosted by Peter Marshall during the 1980’s, just to mention a few career highlights.
In 1986, Les was inducted into the Big Band Hall of Fame in West Palm Beach, FL.
After the passing of Les Elgart in 1995, his beloved wife Joerene kept his legacy alive through his music. In 2022, we sadly lost Joerene Elgart. Both their presence are truly missed.
The Les Elgart Orchestra to this day is dedicated to keeping Mr. & Mrs. Elgart’s memory alive by preserving the unique sound and style that has stood the test of time. The “Elgart Sound” lives forever!
