About
Warren Alexander Dates, a native of Gadsden, Alabama, graduated from Gadsden High School in 1994. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication from Miles College, a United Negro College Fund member institution, in Fairfield, Alabama. Dates obtained his license to preach the Gospel from The Missionary Baptist Church in 2004. One year into his ministry, Dates left Alabama in search of his spiritual purpose. Although he was ministering to others, it was not until four years later when he fully realized his real calling in life.
On the morning of November 2, 2009 Dates was suffering from unbearable abdominal pain and a 104 degree fever. Unable to swallow, his doctor sent him straight to a gastroenterologist’s office who immediately admitted Dates to the hospital where they began both testing him and attempting to stabilize his condition. Later that evening, Dates’ physician, Michael P. Dailey, M.D. and a team of doctors told him he was HIV positive and had full-blown AIDS. He told Dates he probably had only eight days to live, but promised to do all he could to keep him comfortable during that time.
Dates replied, “I understand because now God’s vision has been revealed. I was born to bear this disease and I will be a medical miracle that all of you will be able to write articles about! God doesn’t put more on you than you can bear.” Years later, Dates says “I’m living my 4th year of LIFE in Christ Jesus, undetectable, and I’m sharing the GREAT news that He’s still able to do EVERYTHING BUT FAIL.”
Following his recovery, Minister Dates founded The 6:52 Project Foundation, Inc. (6:52 Project) the mission of which devotes its resources and energy globally to helping individuals and organizations interested in research, education, and/or the prevention and spread of HIV/AIDS. Its resources targets individuals and organizations whose audience includes those affected and/or infected between the ages of 15-35 years. The 6:52 Project Foundation, Inc. (6:52 Project) began leading the way of exploring the complexity of the HIV/AIDS epidemic as it partners with local, state and national individuals, organizations and corporations on January 16, 2010. Dates is the Foundation’s founder and serves as its CEO.
Dates has more than 14 years program management, event planning, fund development and public relations experience. Along with planning, producing and directing award-winning galas and receptions, he has produced company events and trade shows. Prior to starting the foundation, Dates was employed with the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Foundation (NBCAHOF) in Atlanta, Georgia where he served as Vice-President of Programs & Fund Development. During that time Dates managed several annual scholarship programs including the Chefs of the World: A Taste of Fame event and the Hall of Fame Weekend conference. This conference hosted more than 30 Historically Black College and University representatives for events such as the “Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony” and “Hall of Fame Queen’s Competition.”
Prior to the Hall of Fame, Dates worked for the Johnnetta B. Cole Global Diversity & Inclusion Institute in North Carolina, where he helped shape the organization’s programs after being its second full-time employee. In the role of Program Manager, Dates was responsible for corporate relationships and was the project manager for the annual Chief Diversity Officers Forum. During his tenure, The Institute awarded more than $600,000 in scholarships to deserving young women at Bennett College for Women, where the organization was founded.
Dates served on the Boards of Directors for Big Brothers/Big Sisters in Gadsden, Alabama and GSAFE in Greensboro, North Carolina. Dates currently is Community Co-Chair of the Alabama Department of Public Health’s HIV Prevention & Care Group (HPCG) and the Area 5 HOPE Committee; He is Sr. Peer Linkage Specialist for AL Dept. of Public Health, Area’s 5 & 6; He is the Founding Chairman of the Board of Directors for NEAL (Northeast Alabama) Together (an LGBTQ Community Support Group) and he serves as Vice-Chair of SAPOP (Southwest Atlanta People of Purpose).
