Initially formed in 2011 as a quartet, our founding vision was to develop A-level singing technique while still paying homage to the core rudiments of the classic quartet style. As membership grew, the quartet developed into a Quartet Singing Association - a place where congenial men of good character could hone the craft of four-part harmony. Before long, The Squares chorus was born and continues to this day as part of the Southwest British Columbia chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS). The Squares chorus continue to compete in official BHS contests, scoring in our Division’s top 3 every year. The Squares chorus proudly represented our district at the BHS International Convention in 2018.

As a Chapter, it is our mission to delight listeners young and old by bringing barbershop to a broader audience. We take every opportunity to sing for and with our community via charity shows, tag nights, caroling and street busking. Our reputation is well established as the ‘last ones standing’ at all-night tag parties. We also strive for musical excellence and an ‘all carrot/no stick’ approach to rehearsing in order to deliver the stories that connect with our audience. And we believe that the best chorus sound has it roots in quartet singing.

We like to arrive 20 minutes early to warm up. A designated and/or private space to warm up is not required but is always appreciated.
For larger venues, we recommend either 4 handheld microphones or one central, omni-directional microphone.
