They were great!

The main singer of the band, Grant, was very helpful! He was extremely accommodating and helped me figure out what would best suit my party. I held a Murder Mystery Dinner Party for my company's Holiday Party and Grant was extremely helpful. He even helped me find two flapper dancers to match the theme. I booked my Murder Mystery Troupe in advance, but I heard that this company does Murder Mysteries too. I will definitely go with them if I plan on having an event like this again.

Incredible in every way!

Incredibly smooth and professional process working with the band and made sure all my possible wants and needs were met. It was a gorgeous show. Made the ‘Great Gatsby’ feeling come to life! All around a great experience. Will definitely be working with them in the future, and think everyone do the same!

Thank you so much Phoebe! You opted for the deluxe experience and I'm glad you did! We love it when we can pull out all the stops and go full traditional big-band style! All the guys loved you and your dancing was roaring 20's all over again! Can't wait to do it again next year!

What to expect

Our offerings can all be as single, ala-carte bookings, but in a perfect world, we would include many of them together in a single package. Ideally, we try to match the venue to the era-specific theme--- so the history and style of the building itself would set the tone. For example: Gatsby Theme = hundred year old+ mansion / Prohibition Theme = underground speakeasy, etc...

With a full sized package, the show starts before you even get inside.

WELCOME...
Arriving guests would notice era-specific cars (cars made in the same era as the theme of the event) parked near the entrance, and costumed talent (in matching era-specific wardrobe) greeting them, and welcoming them to the event. The entry access would aslo match the theme (if a black tie affair, a butler will announce them in grand fashion, if a speakeasy event, they must speak the secret code to the hidden door, etc... )

LIVE MUSIC...
Once inside, the center piece is the music - an era-specific, live band, performing authentic songs from the same era, with makeup, hair, instruments and wardrobe to match. During set-breaks between performances, a sometimes hidden DJ keeps the music going just enough to ensure that the vibe is not interrupted.

INTERACTIONS...
Depending on the package, talent would appear to host interactive activities, such as announcing that a body was found, and proceeding to investigate the crowd to find the killar... AND/OR... a dance professional shares some dance lessons (era-specific) before the live music kicks off to dance to it.... AND/OR.... photo areas are set up, with props, backdrops, lighting, models & photographers--- (all era-specific) for guests to interact with...AND/OR... a movie is playing either for backdrop ambiance, or in a special room with a narrative tie-in to the rest of the event (sometimes clues to the murder mystery can be embedded in the movie, or other parts of the event)... AND/OR... a scavenger hunt for the missing "era-specific-treasure" (that can sometimes be a narrative tie-in to other activities)...AND/OR... A sing-a-long session... AND/OR... drinking contest... AND/OR... a specialty performer or flash-mob take center focus for a 'spontanious' performance...

ENVIRONMENT...
We will often set up lighting to establish a more 'cinema' like mood, as well as bring props from the era-specific theme to decorate and/or interact with, or include as photo shoots, etc--- this might include old-style phones, old newspaper re-prints, vintage technology, or any curiosities of a by-gone era-specific theme.

FINALE...
If a character or narrative has spanned the event, perhaps seen in newspapers, in cinema, on stage, in isolated performances, or referenced in passing notes or otherwise--- an end-of-the-night finalie to conclude the narrative or complete the charactor would finish off the sequence of events throughout the evening... this could be the 'murderer' declaring his innocence and excaping the event while the 'authorities' give chase, or this could be an announcement tied to a real-world event, such as a birthday, anniversary, proposal, promotion, retirement, gender reveal, or anything else that the host wants to feature as a major announcement to the affair.

Influences and inspiration

Duke Ellington & classic crime noir cinema.

Jazz Standards 1920’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, etc.
Considered the most well crafted music of American pop history, Jazz Standards have fueled the careers of the most famous singers of the century, including Billy Holiday, Louie Armstrong & Frank Sinatra (and all the members of the Rat Pack, just to name a few). These songs are found constantly in modern film & music, and are rediscovered every year by younger generations. Even today’s mega-stars Adam Levin & Lady Gaga have recorded new versions. Below is our list of personal favorites from the Great American Songbook.
