About A. Scott Galbraith
From the football field to the pulpit, from professional sports locker rooms to some of life’s most meaningful personal moments, **A. Scott Galbraith has spent much of his life encouraging, mentoring, serving, and walking alongside people.**
A **USC Football alumnus, former NFL player, longtime NBA team chaplain, pastor, and experienced chaplain**, Scott brings an uncommon combination of life experience, ministry, leadership, and presence to his role as a wedding officiant and celebrant.
### From USC to the NFL
Scott’s journey began on the football field at the **University of Southern California (USC)**, where he was part of one of college football’s most storied traditions.
He went on to play **nine seasons in the National Football League**, competing at the highest level of professional football.
Those years helped shape qualities that have remained central throughout his life: preparation, discipline, leadership, teamwork, adaptability, and the ability to remain composed when the moment matters.
But Scott’s story did not end when his playing career ended.
In many ways, it was the beginning of another calling.
### From Professional Athlete to Professional Sports Chaplain
Following his NFL career, Scott continued working with professional athletes and their families from a very different position.
For more than **two decades, he has served in professional sports chaplaincy, including with the Sacramento Kings.**
The transition from professional athlete to chaplain gave Scott a unique understanding of people beyond their titles, careers, accomplishments, and public identities.
Chaplaincy is built on relationships and trust. It requires the ability to listen, encourage, counsel, maintain discretion, and be present for people during both celebrations and difficult seasons.
Over the years, Scott has had the privilege of encouraging individuals and families navigating relationships, careers, faith, major transitions, personal challenges, and some of life’s most important decisions.
Those experiences continue to influence the way he serves people today.
### A Life of Ministry
Scott’s ministry extends well beyond professional sports.
His background includes service as a **pastor, hospice chaplain, men’s ministry leader, mentor, and spiritual counselor**.
Pastoral ministry taught him the importance of caring for the whole person and recognizing that behind every occasion is a story.
Hospice chaplaincy deepened that understanding.
Walking alongside individuals and families during deeply personal seasons requires compassion, patience, sensitivity, and the ability to listen before speaking. It reinforced Scott’s belief that some moments in life deserve more than words—they deserve genuine presence.
Whether celebrating a new beginning or supporting a family through a significant transition, Scott approaches people with dignity, respect, and care.
### Why Officiating Is a Natural Extension of His Ministry
For Scott, officiating weddings is not simply about conducting an event.
Marriage represents one of life’s most important commitments.
After decades of pastoral ministry, chaplaincy, mentoring, and working with individuals and families, becoming part of that moment is a natural extension of the work Scott has spent much of his life doing.
He understands that couples arrive at the altar with more than wedding plans. They bring their histories, families, faith, hopes, personalities, and dreams for the future.
That is why Scott believes a wedding ceremony should recognize the significance of the commitment being made while still reflecting the people making it.
His role is to honor that moment.
### Faith, Marriage & Commitment
Scott’s Christian faith has been foundational throughout his life and ministry.
As a pastor and chaplain, he has spent years encouraging others in matters of faith, relationships, family, character, and commitment.
He believes marriage is about more than the wedding day itself. The ceremony marks the beginning of a shared life that will require love, communication, patience, faithfulness, friendship, forgiveness, and commitment.
For couples who desire a Christian foundation for their ceremony and marriage, Scott brings decades of pastoral and ministry experience to that responsibility.
He also recognizes that every couple has a unique story and approaches each opportunity with respect and a desire to understand the people he has been asked to serve.
### Comfortable in Life’s Biggest Moments
Scott has experienced environments that few wedding officiants have.
He has competed in major stadiums as a professional athlete, spoken and ministered in churches, worked inside professional sports organizations, counseled individuals privately, supported families as a hospice chaplain, and addressed audiences in a variety of settings.
Each environment required something different.
Professional sports required discipline and composure.
Pastoral ministry required leadership and spiritual understanding.
Chaplaincy required trust and discretion.
Hospice ministry required compassion and sensitivity.
Public speaking required presence and communication.
Together, those experiences have shaped the person Scott brings to every important occasion.
His sports background may be what initially catches someone’s attention, but it is his **lifetime of service to people** that defines the way he approaches this work.
### More Than the Credentials
Being a **USC Football alumnus, former NFL player, and longtime NBA team chaplain** makes Scott’s background distinctive.
But those accomplishments are not the heart of his story.
The heart of his story is service.
Throughout the different chapters of his life, Scott has consistently found himself in roles that involve encouraging people, strengthening relationships, mentoring others, providing spiritual guidance, and being present during significant moments.
The setting may have changed—from football fields and basketball arenas to churches, homes, hospitals, and wedding venues—but the commitment to people has remained.
### Celebrating Life’s Meaningful Moments
Today, Scott considers it a privilege to bring his experience to couples and families throughout the **Greater Sacramento area and Northern California**.
Weddings, elopements, vow renewals, anniversaries, and other milestone celebrations represent chapters in a larger story.
For Scott, being invited into those moments is an honor.
His pastoral and hospice chaplaincy experience also allows him to serve families during another kind of meaningful occasion. When appropriate, Scott is available for **memorial services and celebrations of life**, particularly for families who may not have a pastor or church home and desire someone who can lead with compassion, dignity, faith, and hope.
### From the Field to a Life of Service
Scott’s journey has taken him from **USC Football to nine seasons in the NFL, from professional athletics to more than two decades of NBA team chaplaincy, and from pastoral and hospice ministry to officiating some of life’s most meaningful occasions.**
While the settings have been remarkably different, the purpose connecting them has remained remarkably consistent:
**Serving people. Encouraging lives. Honoring commitments. Being present when the moment matters.**
For Scott, every couple and every family has a story worth hearing and a moment worth honoring.
And after a lifetime filled with extraordinary experiences, he still considers being trusted to share in someone else’s important moment one of the greatest privileges of all.
