The Professor UnderFunk

I have been listening to Cecil for over 14 years, and I can tell you, he is always in top form. I love going to see him perform, whoever he may be playing with. I love his last CD , Elephant Tracks, (Ain't No Sunshine is my favorite) and can't wait for his next studio CD to come out. Go and see him...you won't be disappointed.

I've seen this guy play on multiple occasions, different venues, different bands and he never ceases to entertain. I remember a Sunday afternoon at the legendary "Gruene Hall" when he was playing with The Adam Johnson Band. He had the audience interacting and throwing jokes back and forth and, this is no joke, the law enforcement officer directing traffic heard him interacting with the audience and left his post, came into Gruene Hall and started dancing, dodging, pretending to direct traffic, blowing his whistle to the music and jamming with the band on stage for several songs. The band facilitated by playing some extra funky 70's and 80's tunes and the police officer became the center of attention and a major addition to the show. This is just one of the instances where Cecil provides that extra something that is a rare and inherent talent. Oh, he has also been on stage since the age of 9 years old. This cat is a performer, bassist, singer, songwriter with a broad scope of musical variation and has serious skills!

The Professor Underfunk played with the Adam Johnson Band at our company holiday party in 2015. Not only was the performance engaging and fun, Cecil really stood out as both a talented bassist and an excellent singer with a truly distinctive voice. We went out of our way not long after to see him perform in Gruene Hall (w/ AJ Band) and again at Sam's Burger Joint (with Catherine Denise).
