The Heartstrings
Overview
The Heartstrings are a Nashville bluegrass and old-time band playing the ORIGINAL country sound that built Music City.
Led by award-winning guitarist and country singer Liz Pickard, our members have played everywhere from the Grand Ole Opry to hometown parades. Our music is seriously authentic, but polished enough for weddings, corporate events, private parties, festivals, and more.
Book a duo or trio for an intimate acoustic feel or the full five-piece band to get the party going. We also call square dances!
If you want something more memorable than the same old cover band, send us a message. We’d love to help make your event distinctive.

The heartstrings were punctual, warm, and had very clear communication skills. We hired them for a bluegrass duo for a corporate events and they were a huge hit! They were able to accommodate all our needs (especially a last minute one!) and handled it with peek professionalism. I wouldn't hesitate to hire them for our next event! Thank you so much Liz, y'all were incredible!

We take the music seriously, but we also take professionalism seriously.
About
We’re probably unlike most Nashville bands you’ve heard.
You won’t find us playing the usual covers on Broadway. We’re more likely to be tucked into the corner of a neighborhood bar leading an old-time jam, digging up tunes from old 78 records, playing a fiddle contest somewhere in East Tennessee, or calling a square dance for hundreds of guests at our favorite Tennessee farm.
The Heartstrings play old-time and bluegrass music—the original country sound that helped make Music City famous.
We are led by award-winning old-time guitarist and country singer Liz Pickard, who brings together some of Nashville’s most accomplished old-time and bluegrass musicians.
Our members have played everywhere from the Grand Ole Opry to festivals, fiddle contests, dances, weddings, hometown parades, and plenty of places without a stage at all.
Members of The Heartstrings have been playing together in one form or another for more than 10 years, and it shows. There’s an ease and energy to the music that only comes from all those years.
We specialize in old-time, bluegrass, traditional country, fiddle tunes, and Southern string band music. We love the old stuff and take it seriously—but we also know that when you hire a band for an event, our job is to help make that event great.
That means showing up prepared, communicating clearly, looking the part, reading the room, and adjusting the music to fit what’s happening.
One of the things we love about this music is how versatile it can be.
A duo or trio can play acoustically during a wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, or intimate gathering without overpowering the room. A larger lineup can bring more energy to a reception, corporate event, festival, or party.
And if you really want to give your guests something to remember, we can bring a caller and turn the evening into a square dance.
No experience required. Our caller teaches each dance before the music starts and keeps everyone moving once it does. Square dancing is interactive, family-friendly, and one of our favorite ways to get a room full of people who may not know each other laughing and dancing together.
The Heartstrings can perform as a duo, trio, or full five-piece band depending on the size, setting, and feel of your event.
We regularly play:
Wedding ceremonies, cocktail hours, receptions, rehearsal dinners, and welcome parties
Corporate events and conferences
Private parties and celebrations
Festivals and community events
Farm dinners and outdoor events
Square dances and barn dances
Planning something we haven't listed? Ask us anyway. No joke—we once played a cattle auction.
If you’re looking for a Nashville bluegrass band with genuine Tennessee character, and musicians who know how to make that music work for a modern event, send us a message and tell us what you’re planning.
We’d be happy to help you create something distinctive.
