We have many different configurations of the band with our most popular being our 7 piece New Orleans style band, 4 piece band, and for the full swing era effect, our 14 piece big band! Our performances are high energy and authentic to old time jazz from the early 1900s through the 1950s or so. Our band can be configured in many different ways to help accommodate budget as well as space. Our main configuration is our 6 piece band featuring: trumpet, clarinet/sax, trombone, piano, upright bass, and drums/male vocals. We can also offer smaller bands all the way down to a solo act as well as larger groups all the way up to a 14 person big band! We have a few female vocalists on staff as well that can be added to any configuration.
Clients can expect the highest level of professionalism at your event, well dressed/styled musicians, excellent audio/visual, and always a willingness to make your event the best it can be.
The Dirty River Jazz Band is a traditional style jazz band hailing from San Antonio, Texas. The first band members originally met at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas where most of them studied music. After a concert put on by San Antonio’s own Jim Cullum, Chris Alvarado and Kris Vargas decided to put a similar group together. Their first public performance was under a gazebo on the square of downtown Seguin where they instantly started turning heads. They have gone on to perform at weddings, corporate events, private parties, swing dance events, and a number of venues around the United States.
The band is managed by Drummer, Vocalist, and Arranger Chris Alvarado, who also handles bookings. Other band members include Curtis Calderon (Trumpet), Nick Brown (Clarinet), Evan Drum (Trombone), Trevin Roming (Piano), Ric Ramirez (Bass), and Faith Evangeline (Female Vocals). The Dirty River Jazz Band’s sound closely emulates The Jim Cullum Jazz Band who helped mentor the members of the band. Other similar artists include: Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver, Kid Ory, Fats Waller, Turk Murphy, Lu Watters and many others. The goal of the band is to bring high energy and expertise to a style of music that some have forgotten. The roaring 20’ are coming back around and The Dirty River Jazz Band is the future of traditional jazz in Texas.
Our technical needs differ depending on the size of the band, the size of the venue we are playing at, and the vibe that the event is wanting to achieve. We are willing to work with any sound/AV technician that you may have onsite. Our team is also able to provide full AV Services for your event if they are needed.
