Overview

Specializing in primal, joint-rockin' barrelhouse blues n' boogie, the Shakers are a duo with a stripped down but powerful sound, featuring piano and washboard/spoons/assorted percussion. We bring to life old-school, good-time, steady-rollin' grooves from the deep musical traditions of places like St. Louis, Texas, Chicago and New Orleans. Instrumental stuff from the 20's, 30's through to the early days of R&B. But this ain't no history museum where you can't touch the glass; The party's on now - let's get down! Ready to rock bars, eateries, house parties, private events - whatever you've got.

What to expect

The ambiance of an smoky barrelhouse or New Orleans dance club in the 50's. A stripped down, no-nonsense approach to traditional American piano blues. Instrumental boogies, shuffles, rumbas, stomps, second line grooves to serve as the soundtrack for a hip, old-school flavored party or get-together of any kind. Perfect for background music, but low-down dancing is sometimes unavoidable!

About

Emerging into the light of day from their respective east bay basements, the Deep Basement Shakers have stumbled upon an ancient alchemical formula involving a beat-up piano, discarded soup cans from impulsively consumed emergency earthquake kits, and the sweetest sounding wooden napkin holder you'll ever hear. Featuring local traditional American music specialist Aaron Hammerman on piano, and Bay Area percussion legend Dave Eagle (the Right Time, Rusty Zinn, Zamico) on washboard, spoons, hand drum, suitcase, train whistle, and animal calls.

Additional booking notes
