What to expect
No one will dispute the amazing talent in this Band! Ricky Parish brings a huge bag of energy along with his skills and ability as a respected Blues Guitarist.
About
Ricky Parish's musical journey began at the age of seven when he picked up a guitar for the very first time. Like many aspiring musicians, he explored a variety of musical styles throughout his youth, searching for the sound that truly spoke to him. From rock to country and everything in between, each genre contributed to his development as a guitarist. Ultimately, however, it was the raw emotion, expressive freedom, and timeless soul of the blues that captured his heart and defined his musical identity.
A major influence in Ricky's early development was his longtime guitar instructor, Terry Kilgore of Pasadena, California. Kilgore, a highly respected guitarist who grew up alongside Eddie Van Halen in Pasadena, brought a unique perspective to his teaching, combining technical precision with a passion for expressive playing. Under Kilgore's guidance, Ricky developed the foundation that would later evolve into his own distinctive style.
Ricky's life changed dramatically through a chance meeting with blues legend John Lee Hooker. That opportunity led to an unforgettable three-year period touring as Hooker's featured guitarist until Hooker's passing in 2001. During those years, Ricky performed alongside some of the greatest names in blues and rock history, including B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Guy, and Jimmie Vaughan. Sharing the stage with these legendary artists helped shape Ricky's musicianship while deepening his appreciation for the traditions of American blues music.
Today, Ricky continues to captivate audiences throughout Southern California and across the United States as the bandleader and lead guitarist of The Blues Gypsys. Known for his passionate performances, dynamic stage presence, and expressive guitar work, Ricky blends decades of experience with a unique voice that honors the blues while pushing it forward.
Joining Ricky on stage is a talented group of musicians who share his passion for authentic live performance. On drums is his son, Ricky Parish III, whose powerful groove and musical instincts provide the heartbeat of the band. On bass is Cameron Bell, delivering the solid foundation that drives the band's unmistakable sound. Completing the lineup is keyboardist Harlan Spector, whose distinguished career includes touring with Buffalo Springfield, bringing decades of experience and rich musical textures to every performance.
Ricky's playing reflects the influence of many of the guitarists he admires most, including Alvin Lee, Jeff Beck, and Jimi Hendrix. Rather than simply imitating those legends, he has developed a style of his own that combines blistering speed, expressive phrasing, soaring sustain, and emotional depth. His performances are known for lightning-fast passages, fluid improvisation, and a rare ability to make the guitar sing with the nuance and emotion of the human voice.
After more than five decades as a guitarist, Ricky Parish remains dedicated to his craft, continually refining his technique while staying true to the music that first inspired him. Whether performing intimate blues clubs, outdoor festivals, private events, or concert stages, Ricky and The Blues Gypsys continue to deliver powerful performances that celebrate the enduring spirit of the blues and leave audiences wanting more.
