The Big Laird Band Saved Our Wedding!

My wife and I hired a DJ and The Big Laird Band for our wedding. The band was on time, got set up, and everything was going swimmingly...until a storm came through and knocked the power out halfway through cocktail hour and never came back on. The Band saved our wedding! They were able to play the song for our first dance, had a great alternative for the mother-son dance, and did acoustic renditions of their setlist. They took the reception to the next level: everyone was on the dance floor and singing along. The Band played so many of our favorite songs and even added some tracks to complement the blackout. To this day, people are still talking about how much fun they had at our wedding. I am so thankful to The Big Laird Band for playing at our wedding and making it a night to remember!

This ended up being an absolute BLAST for us and challenged us a lot. So much fun being there, the crowd really acquiesced. Thanks so much for the accolades!

Great band!

I had the Big Laird Band play at my 4th of July party, and they were absolutely incredible. Their range of songs is seriously impressive, the singer has a great voice, and they kept the energy up all night. They were professional, responsive, and genuinely easy to work with from start to finish. They even learned a few specific songs we requested. it made the night feel even more personal and memorable. Highly recommend!

What to expect

BLB will work closely with event organizers or venue managers to make sure that the set list is curated to the needs of the client. In all cases, if the client wants to review a set list, BLB will send it well in advance, and if the client wants us to learn songs we will learn them if given reasonable lead time.

For events, we can meticulously plan out timing depending on what is going on. We have worked many derby races and timed our sets such that there is a break when something important happens. The same works for weddings with using a curated playlist during breaks.

We have the ability to be very quiet with our solo/duo/trio work but we can really pump energy in the room as a full band. We often send clients a "sound chart" from 1-10 asking them how loud they want us to be. We will incorporate the crowd and even other musicians into our acts where appropriate and with permission from the client.

We will bring lights and appropriate speakers for the venue as well as merch if allowed. If told ahead of time we will call out members for birthdays, sing happy birthday or pause for a New Year countdown. If playing weddings we will take the appropriate breaks and allow members of the wedding party to speak or perform if we know in advance, and for any private events we will be sure to give deference to the celebrations nuances, depending on what is needed from us.

About

The Big Laird Band is a collective band of professional musicians from the DMV and Central VA area that plays a wide variety of music from the 70s to the 2010s. They incorporate keyboards, a female lead singer, and other performative aspects to their shows depending on the venue. They started in 2020 and have played 250+ shows around Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and North Carolina.

The band is led by co-founders Matt Harris and Brett Buehler, who take care of the solo and duo acoustic acts. With multiple bass players, drummers, keyboard players and a few female lead singers, BLB tailors the show to the venue or event. They bring their own gear including speakers and lights as long as there is ample power and coverage for outdoor events.

BLB has played three weddings and 20+ private events over the past few years as they expanded to also incorporate a DJ. We worked in tandem with a DJ/MC for three weddings, providing sound and creating an eclectic mix of dance tunes along with live music.

BLB also has original songs out on Spotify and Apple Music, blending in their classic rock influences with a more hard rock vibe. They play original shows around Maryland and Delaware occasionally and are continuing to release music.

Matt's vocal range goes as low as ZZtop and as high as Axl Rose for GNR. A classic rock singer by trade, Harris currently plays in a Guns N' Roses tribute band called Ounce of Pain and a Zeppelin-GNR-AC/DC Tribute called Whole Lotta Roses. Harris got his start with Shelby Hotwire on the Eastern Shore and was a part of the Rosin Creek Band, an acoustic band that played around Kent County Maryland. He also played rhythm guitar and was the lead singer for The Petty Bandits, a Tom Petty Tribute. Harris has his own side project called Captain Jack's Marauders for some original folk music and has worked with Kenny Clawson on MK4, a hard rock original band. He also guest-starred on guitarist Brett Bueher's track "Algorithms."

Brett Buehler has also played for various cover bands around the DC area but is mostly known for his work as the founder and writer for The Hollow Truths, an original hard rock band. He is also the founder and current operator of The Part Time Rockstar Podcast and has over 200 episodes interviewing artists around the globe. He puts on an annual PTR Fest in Halethorpe, MD that features 10+ artists. He also does video and photography and helps to create music videos. He is also available for hire at weddings.

Additional booking notes

-Stage: Some kind of location with ample space and power is necessary. We don't have our own stage to bring with us, but as long as the location if flat and dry, we can make it work.
-We have lights but prefer well-let locations
-We bring our own sound but if there is house sound we are more than happy to use it.
