About

Tenor Demetrios Jussi Tsinopoulos was born and
raised in Greece to a Greek-American father and a
Finnish mother. This multicultural and multilingual
heritage was instilled in him from an early age.
He was introduced to the world of opera through his
uncle, tenor Antonio Theba, and his aunt, the former
actress and dramaturg Paya Veaki. Following his
uncle’s untimely death, he was accepted into the
prestigious National Conservatory of Athens where
he studied voice with Despoina Kalafati.
Concurrently, he also pursued acting studies at the
renowned Veaki Drama School, establishing a
strong foundation in both vocal and theatrical
performance.
After completing his studies in Greece, he moved to
New York City to continue his operatic training.
There he became a pupil of the internationally
respected tenor and teacher Jack LiVigni. He further
refined his artistry through work with several
distinguished teachers and coaches including
Salvatore Fisichella with whom he completed an
intensive masterclass in Rome, earning certification
for his vocal and artistic achievement. He has also
worked with celebrated bass Dimitri Kavrakos vocal
coach William Hicks pianist and longtime
collaborator of Luciano Pavarotti and maestro
William Vendice. More recently, his artistic and
technical development has continued under the
guidance of tenor Giovanni Ribichesu.
Demetrios Jussi Tsinopoulos has performed over
200 times on both the opera and concert stages
presenting opera arias and art songs in a wide range
of languages styles and musical traditions. This
breadth of experience has helped shape him into a
versatile and communicative artist with a strong
affinity for both dramatic and concert repertoire.
During his years in the United States he appeared
frequently in both opera and concert performances.
His U.S. debut took place at Carnegie Hall in May
2015 where he created the role of the High Priest in
*Porphyra* a Greek opera by B. Chrissochos. In
2016 he made his Lincoln Centre debut in the title
role of Heracles in *Olympic Flame* by P. Karousos
marking the historic first performance of a Greek
opera at Lincoln Centre. He later reprised the role in
an open-air performance at Athens Square Park in
New York.
In the same year he was honoured as a 2016
Cultural Grant Recipient of the American-
Scandinavian Foundation representing Finland and
performed songs by Jean Sibelius at the award
ceremony. He also appeared in Pazardjik, Bulgaria,
under the auspices of UNESCO presenting a
programme of arias and songs.
In 2017 he served as principal performer for the
Finland Centennial Celebration in New York City
organised by the Finlandia Foundation and
performed regularly at Finnish Independence Day
celebrations and charitable events including works
by Sibelius and other Finnish and Scandinavian
composers. During the same period he also
appeared in Marco Bozzari / Markos Botsaris by P.
Carrer including performances connected with its
modern revival and presentation in the United
States. In recognition of his artistic activity and
cultural contribution he has been honoured twice by
UNESCO for his contributions to culture and
classical music and recognised as an ambassador
of Hellenic classical music internationally.
In 2019 he organised and performed in a major
charity concert at Lincoln Center’s Bruno Walter
Auditorium raising $20,000 for the Hellenic Relief
Foundation in Greece which later recognised his
dedication and efforts.
Following the pandemic years he relocated to
Europe in 2022 to further expand his international
career. Shortly after his move he made two
important role debuts: B.F. Pinkerton in Puccini’s
*Madama Butterfly* with the North Wales Opera
Company and Alfredo Germont in Verdi’s *La
Traviata* with PiccolaOpera in Zürich.
In February 2023, Demetrios Jussi Tsinopoulos
appeared as The Priest in the pan-European
premiere of Joel Mandelbaum’s contemporary opera
*The Village* in Hamburg. In 2024, he made his
theatrical debut in Munich as Lucheni in Georg
Stampfer’s *Sissi*. His recent and upcoming
engagements include Evrimachos in *Odysseus –
Das Musical* in Munich and concert appearances
such as Musical Meets Magie at Festspielhaus
Neuschwanstein.
Demetrios Jussi Tsinopoulos’s repertoire spans
opera, concert, oratorio and music theatre. He
continues to build an international career
distinguished by dramatic commitment, stylistic
range and a strong connection to Greek,
Scandinavian and Italian traditions.

Technical requirements vary depending on the type and size of the event.

For performances with a live pianist, access to a well-maintained acoustic piano or a quality digital piano/keyboard is required. If a pianist is not provided by the organizer, one can be arranged upon request.

For smaller venues and private events, performances may also be presented with professional backing tracks. In such cases, a sound system or speaker setup is required. Portable sound equipment can be arranged for certain events if needed.

For larger venues, concerts, and gala performances, standard stage lighting and professional audio support are appreciated but can be discussed according to the specific needs of the event.

Every performance is tailored to the venue and occasion, and technical requirements are kept as simple and flexible as possible. Please feel free to discuss any special circumstances or requests in advance.
