Initially, everything appeared positive; communication was excellent.
The trial was successful. However, I was unexpectedly charged an additional $50 for adding my extensions. I paid a total of $200 for "glam waves" with extensions & $150 for makeup.
Following a brief period, I communicated several minor adjustments to my makeup application and proposed some alterations to my hairstyle. She didn't respond immediately when I showed her a picture of a hairstyle I was thinking about. I suspect this is because she may not have much experience with that style of hair. Following a delayed response, I was informed that a different stylist would be performing the service. No explanation was provided, nor was my consent sought. I accepted this change and proceeded with the expectation of a satisfactory outcome.
I later sent her a text message to inquire about the possibility of my aunt having her hair styled the morning of my event, and her response was simply the price, "$80". I assumed she must have been occupied. I politely inquired if my aunt could have her hair styled, but I received no response. The following day, I informed her that my aunt would be taking my daughter's place and asked for her approval, but again, I received no reply. Her inconsistent responses made me uneasy. A few days later, I politely inquired about the status of our arrangements for my event. She responded affirmatively, but her reply lacked detail. A noticeable change in her communication style raised concerns regarding her reliability. After a few days, I politely inquired about the stylist who would be doing my hair, but I did not receive a response. Following a two-week assessment period, I determined it was not feasible to proceed with the collaboration. I contacted her to inform her, and her response was always, "Are you canceling?" Her initial response was, "I did nothing wrong; are you canceling?" Cancellation would forfeit my $180 deposit. My primary concern was her potential non-appearance, leaving me with insufficient time to secure alternative arrangements. Given the change in her communication patterns, how can I be confident in her attendance?
Subsequently, I discovered numerous negative reviews citing poor communication from her. I was also surprised to learn she lacks a license, which I consider an important factor for accountability. I suspect the makeup artist's enthusiasm waned due to profit-sharing concerns, leading to what I perceived as undue pressure to cancel my appointment and forfeit my deposit. This outcome was unsatisfactory, as cancellation was not my preference. What alternative course of action was available to me?
