About

Tara Byrdsong holds a Master of Music in flute performance from the University of Missouri – Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance, where she studied with Mary Posses. She received her Bachelor of Music in education from Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where she studied with Christopher Vaneman.

As a scholarship recipient, Ms. Byrdsong attended the Brevard Music Center, the Bowdoin International Music Festival, and performed in Prague, Vienna, and England. Through her training at these fine institutions, she studied with and participated in the master classes of Paul Brittan, Christina Smith, Eric J. Hoover, Jennifer Nitchman, Ransom Wilson, Carl Hall, Jan Gippo, and Bart Feller.

During her college career, Ms. Byrdsong was a finalist in the United States Army Field Band auditions, performed with the Topeka Symphony Orchestra, and was a finalist in the United States Army Fife and Drum Corps auditions.

After her formal training, Ms. Byrdsong taught middle school band in the Atlanta Public School system at Martin Luther King Middle School and Luther Judson Price Middle School, where she was voted Teacher of The Year in the (phone number hidden)6 school year.

Ms. Byrdsong now resides in Mableton, GA, where she has an active career in teaching and performance. She is the principal flute of the Cobb Wind Symphony, a member of Delta Omicron, the National Flute Association, the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA), and The National Association for Music Education (MENC). She is currently the Director of Bands at Campbell Middle School in Smyrna, Georgia.
