About
Clint Black calls him "Mon-Tanner," and anyone who's heard him play knows why. Tanner Laws grew up in Thompson Falls, Montana, a small river town where hard work and honest words still carry weight. He earned a civil engineering degree from Montana Tech, but blueprints never held his attention the way a six-string did. So he set down the drafting tools and started building something else: songs with strong foundations and plenty of heart.
Now based in Missoula, Tanner fronts the Tanner Laws Band, bringing those songs to life with a crew of hard-hitting Montana players. The Northwest CMAs named him Songwriter of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and Favorite Local Solo Artist, and Missoula crowned the group its Best New Band. They’ve played at festivals and concerts like Under the Big Sky, Red Ants Pants Festival, Dillon Labor Day Concert, Testy Fest, Harlo Music Project, FarmJam, and more. Along the way, he's shared stages with Clint Black, The Turnpike Troubadours, Dustin Lynch, Corey Kent, Colby Acuff, and Braxton Keith. From smoky honky-tonks to festival stages, Tanner brings Montana grit, incredible vocals, and honest lyrics to every stage he plays.
Tanner’s favorite modern artists include The Turnpike Troubadours, Jason Isbell, Cody Johnson, Zach Top, Colter Wall, and Charles Wesley Godwin. Other artists that have helped shape his songwriting are Alan Jackson, George Strait, Chris LeDoux, Merle Haggard, and Keith Whitley. Something Tanner is most excited about is his experience recording his songs in Nashville with some of the best musicians and producers around. These musicians record and/or tour with George Strait, Cody Johnson, Ella Langley, Vince Gill, and Hudson Westbrook, just to name a few. Tanner describes how the 1.5 hours in the studio in which these artists take his humble acoustic song he wrote in his bedroom and transform it into a fully produced song as nothing short of magical. Follow along his journey as Tanner releases these new songs and his band sets up their upcoming tour.
