Haruno Sato, 21, is a violinist experienced in both chamber music and orchestral playing. Since her elementary years, she has played in and held leadership positions in youth orchestras and festival orchestras. An avid chamber musician, Haruno has played alongside many renowned artists such as the members of the Cavani Quartet, the Cleveland Orchestra, and Josef Silverstein.
Haruno’s past performances include many at the Meadowmount School of Music, where she studied for five consecutive summers with Sally Thomas, at the Aspen Music Festival as a part of the Finckel-Wu Han Advanced Piano Trio Program in their inaugural year, a concert tour in Japan as a member of the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra, and at the Music Academy of the West. She has also performed on NPR’s “From the Top”. In 2011, Haruno organized a benefit concert for the victims of the Japan Earthquake and performed with members of the Cleveland Orchestra, the Cavani Quartet and her colleagues from the Cleveland Institute of Music Young Artist Program. Subsequently, she received the Alumni Association Award for Conservatory Study from CIM for her work in the community. Haruno has also performed in solo and chamber music masterclasses for Midori, Mayuko Kamio, Nikolaj Znaider, Josef Silverstein, Glenn Dicterow, members of the Cleveland Quartet, the Leipzig Quartet, and Emerson Quartet.
Born in Japan, Haruno moved to the Detroit, MI area at the age of 2. She began playing violin at the age of 7 studying with founding violinist of the Amernet String Quartet, Kyoko Kashiwagi. She then moved to Cleveland, OH to continue her studies at CIM for 4 years as a member of the Young Artist Program with Paul Kantor and Stephen Rose. Haruno is now pursuing her Bachelor of Music degree at the New England Conservatory in Boston under the tutelage of Donald Weilerstein.
