What to expect
Hiring me means getting the expertise of a storyteller who understands the story, who know how to capture moments that sing with human emotion. You can expect me to use all of the tools available to me as crafter of narratives, to capture the details and finer moments that might otherwise get lost in the confusion and excitement.
About
Hi, I’m Jonathan Kincade, a writer and photographer based in Washington, DC. I’m an event and documentary photographer with a poetic approach to image-making.
As a photographer, I’m self-taught. However, my storytelling credentials include a PhD in narrative from UCLA, multiple published articles and short stories in award-winning literary magazines, and work as the story editor for films like La Llorona and Bird Box. I attended Clarion West Writers Workshop in 2022 and have won numerous other awards for my writing.
I’ve taught classes on storytelling to students of all ages and mentored them on their own writing and photography. My visual work has been featured in exhibitions throughout the DC region and beyond, as well as published in Hyperallergic and The Sun Magazine.
I also use my expertise to help brands, businesses, and grassroots organizations tell the stories that connect people with their missions. Whether photographing a summit or writing copy that drives action, I’m a storyteller at heart. My clients include Free DC, Families for Safe Streets, the Marine Corps Marathon, and the United States Military.
My work blends surreal writing, documentary photography, and portraiture to create striking, emotionally engaging stories.
