Graceful undertaking of a unique idea!!!!!!

Steven was asked to provide and amazing service in a very different way. He was asked to compose poems for quests on the spot at a wedding reception in order to create very personal and intimate poems as the guests parting gifts and a copy of the poems to be put in a binder for the bride and groom. Steven did such an amazing job of greeting the guests and asking question in order to gather just enough information to put together beautiful works of art that were specific to each person an their relationship to the newly married couple. Words cannot express my appreciation for his professionalism and calm nature when faced with this task. Please allow creative love and beautiful souls to help create lasting memories for you and your guests.....and put it in ink.. Steve's, Thank you Brother..

Thank you so much for your kind words! It was truly a pleasure to interact with your guests, hear their stories, and receive all the powerful feelings and love they had for the both of you. It was truly inspiring to hear. Thank you again for allowing us to be creative with your innovative idea, and I hope you find solace in your poetry copies whenever you may look back to this moment.

It was truly a pleasure.

- Steven

About

"These poems are my walls, encased in brimstone, they seldom fall."

Steven Valentine, a spoken word artist first beginning to use his poetry to hide his inner-most emotions, now shares them with the world in order to reach, teach, and inspire. He is a poet who believes, through writing, emotions can be shifted and celebrated.
Steven is a New York City native and graduated from the University at Albany – SUNY (2014). He received his BA while majoring in both English and Sociology and was the recipient of the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence (2014), and the Lena Horne Performing Arts Award (2013), among others.
He began writing after stumbling upon spoken word pieces and was eager to place his emotions somewhere other than within. Now, as a high school educator, Steven uses his passion for poetry to reach the individuals of his classroom and community.
Steven has performed in more than 60 poetry readings, shows, and showcases, and has recently added competitive slam poetry to his repertoire.

Influences and inspiration

During my years in college, I was heavily influenced by two entities: The Strivers Row, a creative arts collective based in New York City, and Phenomenal Voices, a performing arts organization formed at the University at Albany (SUNY), in Albany, New York. The Strivers Row included masterfully poets such as Joshua Bennett, Jasmine Mans, Miles Hodges, and many more. These poets were the first to expose me to the art of poetry and spoken word, inspiring me to pursue the craft myself. Phenomenal Voices, on the other hand, was a thriving performing arts organization stationed at my alma-mater. In addition to poetry, Phenomenal Voices produced showcases that included spoken word, singing, rapping, instrumentalists, and collaboration. Being a part of this organization forced me to be creative and unique as each new group of artists emerged. We grew together, both creatively and spiritually, and it was the first time I considered pursuing this craft as a lifelong profession.
