Dallas, TX native Stephen Goodson is a versatile musician with a passion for guitar performance, blending technical expertise with creative flair. A seasoned multi-instrumentalist, Goodson has developed a distinctive sound that spans rock, jazz, blues, and country, consistently pushing the boundaries of his craft.
Education & Early Years
Goodson honed his musical skills at the prestigious University of North Texas ((phone number hidden)5), where he studied Jazz Studies and Guitar Performance. His time there shaped his understanding of music theory and improvisation, setting the foundation for his diverse career.
Breakthrough with Nelo ((phone number hidden)0)
In the mid-2000s, Goodson rose to prominence as the lead guitarist for the rock band Nelo, signed to Pedernales Records (Universal Distribution). The band’s debut album charted on the Billboard Top Heatseekers, peaking at #18 in May 2008. Their success led to national tours, opening for acts like Everclear, Sister Hazel, Gary Clark Jr., and Del Castillo, as well as appearances at iconic events such as the Austin City Limits Music Festival in 2009 and multiple showcases at SXSW. The rigorous touring and performances across the country solidified Goodson’s reputation as a dynamic and skilled guitarist.

In 2010, Goodson began sharing his expertise with the next generation of musicians, securing a full-time teaching position at Guitar Center in central Dallas. His work with up-and-coming artists continued with a Texas radio tour alongside singer-songwriter Catie Offerman and a private event with Livingston Taylor, where he further developed his collaborative skills.
From 2014 to 2017, Goodson contributed his talents to Deidre Thornell’s performance at the Houston Rodeo and Livestock Show, showcasing his adaptability across various live environments.

Since 2017, Goodson has remained in high demand as both a performer and a producer. He has worked with a wide array of artists, including BJ Stricker and the Kings, Elaina Kay (guitar and mixing), Janay Adams (production & mixing), JP Labastida, Halcyon Exchange, and many more. His ability to seamlessly move between different genres has made him a sought-after collaborator in the Texas music scene.
Recording & Film Work (2016-present)
In addition to his live performance work, Goodson has built a substantial catalog of recorded material, with multiple placements in radio, TV, and film across 24 countries. His original score for the feature film Stuck, directed by Jenni Tooley, further showcases his versatility, blending his instrumental skills with a knack for cinematic composition. He is a BMI-affiliated artist.
Notable Performances
In 2019, Goodson performed at the renowned Crossroads Guitar Festival in Dallas, TX, cementing his status as a respected guitarist.
