Lazell’s early influences include musical legends in the Kansas City Area- Rosa Bussard and Reggie May. As a young performer he was selected for several honor bands including the All City, All District, & All-State Band. As a college student he attended clinics and master classes with Dan Moore, Mat Britain, Jeff Moore; and studied privately with Dr. Dennis Rogers and Doug Auwater. Shortly after joining the Missouri Western Steel Drum Band he attended the West Virginia University Steel Drum Workshop where he met and studied with Percussive Arts Society Hall of Famer Ellie Manette, Darren Dyke and Alan Coyle, and performed with Ken “Professor” Philmore, Andy Narell, Jeff Narell, Tom Miller and Phil Hawkins.

Lazell has earned the reputation as one of the finest steel drummers in the Midwest. He performs regularly at the Intercontinental Hotel and for several restaurants, special events, and fairs throughout the country. He has also performed on call with the St. Joseph Symphony and percussion group Sticks of Thunder. He has shared the stage with Gospel and Jazz recording artists Shirley Caesar, Helen Baylor, Peggy Lacey, Champion, Bobby Connors, Steve Lawrence, Chad Hughes (Sir Wick), Jason Goudeau, and JWB (The James Ward Band).

As an educator, Mr. Williams has taught various high school bands, drumlines, camps, clinics, private drum lessons, and drum classes in the Greater Kansas City area. Since 2006 he has rebuilt and revitalized band programs in Kansas City leading to local and national showcase performances. Mr. Williams students’ are frequently selected to Honor Bands, District and State Bands, and a feature performance with the Kansas City Philharmonia. He is currently the Director of High School Band & Orchestra in Kansas City, where his band has been featured in several performances on local television and across the country.
