We perform acoustic bhakti / devotional music and mantras. Our gatherings range from lively kirtan for an upbeat, sing-a-long party, to gentle bhajans as background music, to protection prayers (kavachas), songs (bandish) in different classical Indian ragas. Vocals are accompanied by harmonium, karatalas, mrdanga, conch and other instruments. Trained in the Vaishnava Bhakti culture. Note: We also DJ spiritually uplifting world music (with added live instrumentation), if you want to start with bhajans/kirtan and move in an electro direction. Check out the Kirtan Into World Music DJs video to see more. We tour nationally and internationally. Let's do an event in your area!
I hired Sri and Joakin for my family's home warming party. They did a ceremony where they chanted mantras to protect and bless our new home, which was beautiful and very interesting. They played soft music and after dinner they led us in a kirtan teaching us the mantras to sing back. It was a magical night, our guests are still talking about it.
Response from Sri Keshava & Joakin:
Thank you Jay. It was a pleasure to work with you and Nicole. We would love to come back any time!
What to Expect
Fully acoustic devotional music in the Indian tradition of kirtan and bhajans. Performance can be mic'd or unplugged. Sri sings, plays harmonium, karatalas and conch. Joakin also plays harmonium, karatalas, percussion and sings. Depending on budget more percussion and harmonies can be added, as well as classical Indian dancers and kirtan dancers.
The performance can be tailored toward:
- mellow, background and ambient
- lively call and response singing (kirtan)
- instructional, teaching or explaining (only if requested by client)
- classical Indian ragas
- with a particular focus such as protection and world peace
The majority of the songs are in Sanskrit, Bengali and Hindi.
Sri Keshava became a Gaudiya Vaishnava monk in her early 20s. During these years she immersed herself in study of Vaishnava scriptures, devotional songs and kirtan. She also studied Khayal (north Indian classical vocals) and classical Indian dance. She has performed around the world for the last 2 decades, collaborates with other artists in the kirtan field and currently performs alongside Joakin Eskasan, who is a Berkelee College of Music (Boston MA) graduate who majored in percussion. Sri and Joakin have performed in the USA, Mexico, Bali, Australia, Spain, Portugal, Germany and Macedonia.
