About
Hailed as “one of the best percussionists in NYC,” Spuddy Roots (Ashanti Drummers) brings unmatched rhythm, culture, and energy to every stage. A world-class performer and musical educator, he has collaborated with top-tier artists such as Cocoa Sarai, Iniko, and British Dependency (to name a few), as well as some of the biggest DJs and stages across the U.S.
Spuddy began playing djembe at just two years old and has since mastered a wide range of percussion instruments from around the world. His versatility spans Afro-Caribbean, Latin, Hip-Hop, House, Jazz, Fusion & much more...
This, & then some, making him a well sought-after force in both live and studio settings.

Additional booking notes
I provide my own percussion instruments when required and can adapt to house kits if available. I'm comfortable with both acoustic and mic’d setups. Technical riders available upon request. Punctual, professional, and easy to coordinate with.
Services offered
Influences and inspiration
We'll be here all day long going through my influences. But to a few, they range from Fela Kuti, Tito Puente, Babatunde Olatunji, and Sheila E. to The Roots, DJ Spinna, and modern Afro-House producers. My style blends tradition with contemporary flair, creating a rhythmic fusion that’s deeply spiritual yet sonically fresh.
Setup requirements
Stage and setup needs vary depending on the event type, service provided and performance style. At minimum, I typically require: A clear 5x5 ft space One sturdy chair or stool (if playing hand drums) Access to power (for electronic elements, if used)
