Overview

Before there was paper, before there was ink, before the written word existed, there were stories. Since the dawn of humankind, stories have been told, saving our history, and our hearts, for all time. The wonder in the eyes of listeners as a yarn is spun is the greatest joy of the storyteller, and it is this that draws our fairies from their home in the feywyld, Spooky Hollow. All are welcome in their Garden of Stories, where they share their collected tales with anyone who craves a little more magic in their lives.

Spectacular entertainment! Captivated our middle school kids

I am VA Rep Theatre Education Manager Vivian Schwartz. I hired Spooky Hallow Storytellers as part of a summer camp event we were holding for middle and high school kids. If you have ever worked in education you know that this demographic of school age children is the HARDEST to please. But they were ENTHRALLED by SHS. The charisma, the props and costumes sparked their interest straight away. But the delectably dark and macabre stories put the nail in the coffin (excuse the pun) and the kids just couldn't get enough! As an educator I would also like to point out that though the stories were macabre and spooky for sure, they were not at all inappropriate for this age group. SHS seems to take that into account when they are planning an event. I was highly impressed and will be hiring them again without a doubt.

Highly Recommend!

I cannot thank this group enough for providing such creative and original content for The Richmond Renaissance Faire fundraising kick off in March. Over 5,000 supporters attended this kick off and we have received numerous emails applauding the Spooky Hollow Storyteller's presentation and evening programming. I absolutely loved how they incorporated song, music and movement into their storytelling which only further captivating our audiences during the evening of festivities.
I highly recommend them and look forward to working with them again in the future!

We were–and continue to be–absolutely honored to be part of this wonderful endeavor to bring a renaissance faire to the city of Richmond. We’re looking forward to more collaborations with Virago Alley!

Booking information

Price range: $100 and up

Gig length: 10 - 60 minutes

What to expect

Our two fairies, Tish Raven and Caspian Crow, perform tales from folklore to listeners of all ages in their Garden of Stories. The stories run roughly 7-10 minutes each, and can be told individually or collected into longer performances of 20-30 minutes. Some stories require audience involvement, some involve individual volunteers, and some require only our fairies, but all engage the audience on an emotional journey that is sure to leave them breathless. Sometimes we even sing and play instruments to add to the mystic atmosphere in our Garden! Our stories are appropriate for all ages; so children, adults, families, and any other dreamers may come to listen and enjoy. (Note, we are appropriate for families, but we are not specifically aimed at children. Adults will have just as much fun listening!)

Additional booking notes

Being from the Feywyld, Tish and Cass need very little! We require no set, though we may bring a couple chairs and a little table to hold various magical accoutrements we may use. We provide all our own props, instruments, and any other bits and bobs used to make our stories fabulous! We are always happy to sit on the ground, and we’ll spread a few blankets out for our younger listeners (assuming we have our own space). Some may stand, but a few toadstools (or any other chair/bench situation) for the comfort of any who might need it would be appreciated. We will also need access to some magic lightning (electricity!) to power our amplification spell (wireless mics!). We are open to performing in a designated area indoors or under the open sky (with or without a tent, depending on the weather). We will fill as much or as little space as we are allowed, and can modify to fit in almost anywhere!
