Professional

I have nothing but good things to say about SoulDriver! Booking them has been a pleasure; they respond quickly, show up on time and play great music for our room at The Brighton, 2471 E Hastings, here in Vancouver. They have become part of our regular rotation of bands and I would not hesitate to recommend them!

Additional booking notes

## Technical Specifications & Setup Information
SoulDriver is a fully self-contained, 5-piece instrumental ensemble designed to offer a seamless, low-stress booking experience. Because they do not require front-facing vocal monitors or microphone stands, their physical footprint is exceptionally clean and compact.
The band provides all of their own musical instruments, backline gear, and commercial-grade extension cords. To ensure a flawless setup, the client only needs to provide access to basic power and weather shelter for outdoor dates.
## ⚡ Electrical & Audio Flexibility

* Self-Contained Sound: The ensemble travels with low-profile, small-format amplifiers perfectly calibrated for ambient spaces, intimate lounges, and medium-sized crowds. A venue-supplied Public Address (PA) system is not required. However, the band can easily interface with an in-house PA if your coordinator or sound technician prefers.
* Power Requirements: The band requires two (2) dedicated 15-Amp / 120-Volt circuits (standard commercial or residential outlets). To prevent mid-performance breaker overloads, please ensure these circuits are entirely independent of high-draw catering equipment (such as coffee urns or warming trays) and heavy event lighting.
* On-Site Logistics: The musicians supply their own heavy-duty extension cords, meaning venue staff only need to point out the nearest functional power outlets during load-in.

## 🛖 Space & Outdoor Protocol

* Optimal Stage Dimensions: The ideal footprint is 12 feet deep by 16 feet wide (approximately 4m x 5m), though they can comfortably adapt to tight restaurant or lounge corners as small as 10' x 12'.
* Floor Protection: The drummer provides a professional-grade percussion mat to anchor the drum kit, ensuring complete protection for the venue’s flooring against scuffs or scratches.
* Outdoor Shelter Requirements: Delicate brass instruments, vintage keyboard electronics, and hollow-body guitars are highly sensitive to weather elements. For outdoor events, the client must provide a minimum 10' x 15' (ideally 12' x 20') heavy-duty canopy or pop-up tent. This structure must deliver total shade for the musicians and their gear, accounting for shifting sun angles during afternoon performances.
* Performance Surface: Equipment cannot be placed directly on grass, soil, or uneven turf. If a raised stage is not available, a flat, solid surface (such as a level patio, deck, or plywood sub-flooring) must be arranged.

1. Van Morrison Selection – 6 Mins | A steady, brass-forward interpretation showcasing his classic R&B style.
2. "Way Down in the Hole" (Tom Waits / The Wire Theme) – 6 Mins | Shifting into a gritty, driving, late-night blues pocket.
3. "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" (Paul Simon) – 6 Mins | Arranged as a clever, mid-tempo shuffle inspired by jazz organist Jimmy Smith.
4. John Scofield Style Groove – 7 Mins | Cool, intellectual jazz-funk that starts getting feet tapping around the room.

5. Maceo Parker / Funk Standard – 7 Mins | A relentless, rhythm-driven groove that showcases high-speed musicianship.
6. Additional Steely Dan Standard – 7 Mins | Smooth but hard-hitting pop melodies rearranged into a massive, full-ensemble jam.
7. Encore Pocket / High-Impact Outro – 3 Mins | A fast-paced, rhythmic grand finale to close out the event on an absolute peak.

Influences and inspiration

The band's repertoire and influences are deeply rooted in classic 1960s/1970s soul, hard bop jazz, and bluesy organ grooves.
They perform an eclectic mix of instrumental jazz standards, vintage soul tracks, and groove-heavy pop and rock tunes reimagined in their signature style.

Core Repertoire & Pop/Rock Tunes
SoulDriver specializes in taking familiar radio classics and reinterpreting them with a soul-jazz pocket rhythm. Their setlist features iconic tracks from timeless pop, funk, and rock artists, including:

* Stevie Wonder: Delivering a soulful, funky take on his masterpiece, "Living for the City".
* Steely Dan & Van Morrison: Channelling the sophisticated jazz-pop arrangements of Steely Dan and the brass-heavy, R&B-infused "Caledonia soul" energy of Van Morrison.
* Paul Simon: Playing a highly stylized version of "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" arranged in the rhythm of jazz organist Jimmy Smith.
* Al Green & Bobby Hebb: Keeping the room warm with romantic, mid-tempo classics like "Let's Stay Together" and "Sunny".
* TV & Pop Culture Themes: Reinterpreting dark, bluesy tracks like "Way Down in the Hole" (the iconic theme from The Wire).

Key Instrumental Influences
When they stretch out into classic instrumental jazz and funk, the band pulls directly from the masters of the groove era:

* Soul-Jazz Organists: Heavily influenced by the bluesy keyboard styles of Jimmy Smith and Jimmy McGriff.
* Guitar Pioneers: Pulling fluid lines and chord melodies inspired by Wes Montgomery, John Scofield, and Grant Green.
* Hard Bop Horns & Drums: Their horn lines and syncopated beats are driven by the styles of Hank Mobley, Freddie Hubbard, and Art Blakey.
* Funky Foundations: Embracing the foundational, raw syncopation of The Meters (via tracks like Sissy Strut) and Maceo Parker.
