Soul of Heritage

Soul of Heritage provides a polished live jazz experience designed to create atmosphere without overpowering the event. Our performances feature a small jazz ensemble playing classic standards, jazz-inspired arrangements of familiar songs, and tasteful instrumental music suited for cocktail hours, dinners, receptions, senior communities, private events, and other special occasions.

Clients can expect clear communication, dependable musicians, and a flexible performance style that can serve as either featured entertainment or background music. We typically perform as a four-piece ensemble with piano, saxophone, bass, and drums, with additional musicians or a vocalist available for select events.

Our goal is to make the music feel like a natural part of the event. We can provide an upbeat swing feel, relaxed coffeehouse atmosphere, elegant cocktail-hour sound, or a more engaging concert-style performance depending on the setting.

Soul of Heritage is especially well suited for weddings, cocktail hours, retirement communities, corporate events, holiday gatherings, restaurants, cafés, private parties, and community events.

When you hire Soul of Heritage, you are getting a prepared, dependable ensemble focused on creating the right atmosphere for your guests and making the event memorable through live music.

Soul of Heritage is a Rochester-based jazz ensemble focused on creating warm, engaging live music for events of all kinds. The group performs a mix of jazz standards, familiar classics, and jazz-inspired arrangements of popular songs, bringing a relaxed and distinctive sound to each performance.

Founded and led by pianist Jax Dyson, Soul of Heritage has performed for senior living communities, private events, weddings, receptions, and other gatherings throughout the Rochester area. The ensemble most often performs as a four-piece group featuring piano, saxophone, bass, and drums, with additional musicians or a vocalist available for select events.

Soul of Heritage is especially suited for cocktail hours, dinners, coffeehouse settings, holiday events, and intimate gatherings where live music can add atmosphere without overwhelming the room. Whether serving as background music or featured entertainment, the group aims to create an experience that feels welcoming, memorable, and connected to the audience.

Soul of Heritage typically performs as a four-piece ensemble consisting of piano/keyboard, saxophone, upright or electric bass, and drums.

For most performances, we require a clean, level performance area with enough space for four musicians and their equipment, along with access to standard electrical outlets nearby.

If a suitable acoustic piano is available, we are happy to use it when appropriate. Otherwise, we can provide an electronic keyboard and amplification.

Depending on the venue and event size, amplification may include keyboard, bass, guitar, saxophone, and vocal inputs. For larger events where a house PA system is provided, we appreciate access to the system and basic sound support. For smaller events, amplification needs may be minimal.

Drums are performed acoustically unless additional amplification is needed for a larger venue.

For outdoor performances, the performance area should be protected from rain and direct exposure to weather, with reliable access to electricity.

We are happy to coordinate setup details with the venue or event organizer ahead of the performance so the setup fits the space and event.
