Son Monarcas is a Chicago-based ensemble comprised of musicians who are well-versed in the Afro-Mestizo genres of Mexican folk music as well as other world music genres having lived in the cultural melting pot that is the Windy City. They blend the traditional with the contemporary by creating original arrangements of son and while retaining the foundation of the traditional style. Some of their original compositions and interpretations also include the accordion which adds a gypsy flair to their authentic Mexican (link hidden)eir performances also showcase the various styles for the Americas as well as original bilingual composition. Also, educational presentations are available for all ages.

When I first saw 'Son Monarcas' on youtube I was blown away. After seeing a few of their performances live, they sound EVEN BETTER!!! They're a great 5-6 piece band with a myriad variety of instruments. They are also very friend and accommodating and will definitely hire again!!!

Traditional music and dance from Latin America is a vibrant blend of many different cultures. Come along with the musicians and dancers of Son Monarcas as they explore the Indigenous, African, and Spanish influences on the rhythms, movement, and melodies of Latin America. The audience will enjoy the collection of songs and dances, including Aztec drum and dance, zapateado (foot tapping) from Veracruz,Mx and Cumbia from Colombia. This lively, interactive performance featuring authentic instruments and dance engages audiences of all ages with energetic renditions of traditional music, and even a familiar melody that the students and teachers will all recognize and love.
This program is appropriate for Hispanic Heritage Month, Day of the Dead, Black History Month, Thanksgiving, Mexican Independence, 5 de mayo and more.

Son Monarcas es un grupo compuesto de musicos que se especializan en los generos afro-mestizos de la musica Folklorica Mexicana. Y como han sido expuestos a otras culturas en la ciudad cosmopolita de Chicago, tambien se dedican a otros generos musicales.Ellos mezclan lo tradicional con lo contemporaneo a traves de arreglos originales del son y otros generos. Mantienen las raices del estilo tradicional y Algunas de sus interpretaciones incluyen el acordeon, lo cual adiere un sabor gitano a sus raices Mexicanas e (link hidden)sde los antiguos sonidos de Mexico como Huapangos y Sones Jarochos, hasta los sonidos sudamericanos como la cumbia y el tango. Son Monarcas los transportara en un viaje musical desde los Estados Unidos hasta las esquinas mas lejanas de Sudamerica.
