December 13, 2023This is the second time that I’ve hired Pete for a birthday surprise and both times were fantastic. He was a huge hit in each case. This most recent time, I actually reached out to him on a Saturday requesting a Monday appearance and he was extremely accommodating, with very quick replies to emails and organizing everything. My wife is a teacher and he showed up at the school to surprise her. He brought a custom birthday card, some lovely sentiments and a rose, sang happy birthday and even sang a song with the kids too. He really made the day special and unique, and her co-workers were amazed. I will not hesitate to hire Pete again!

October 11, 2020I hired Pete to come crash my cousins wedding and serenade the guests from a veranda as Mariachi Pete! He was so game to help me with the surprise, he even accommodated my strange song request.
I reached out to a few local musicians and Pete was the ONLY one who responded quickly and made the whole process very easy. I was the most impressed when the wedding was running behind and we weren’t quite ready for Pete, he was understanding and came an hour later than originally planned. So thankful!! The bride and groom loved their surprise and he was obviously a hit!! ( all socially distanced cautious too)

March 17, 2020Peter came to my grandmother's old age home last year and sang her Happy Birthday (for her 96th Birthday) and some other German folk songs that she and others seniors thoroughly enjoyed. She was so enthusiastic about it and said it was the best birthday surprise she had ever had. She loved it so much last year I arranged it again for her recently for her 97th Birthday. Many of my relatives wanted to join in giving this gift to her because they knew how much she loved it so this year we were able to arrange 45 minutes of birthday entertainment for her. She loved all of it (balloons, handmade card, singing, accordian, traditional German outfit Peter wore). Both times Peter was a joy to work with. I arranged all of this from California and he was always very responsive to my emails (the first time we chatted on the phone too about the details0. He is professional, responsible, detail oriented, and very easy to work with. He is a talented entertainer and I thoroughly recommend him. He does an excellent job.

Hello. My name is Peter Paulus and I am the creator of Singing Telegrams Vancouver in Vancouver BC. I believe live music is the best way to share a message of love and hope with that special someone on their special day. My love for music and the satisfaction I receive from bringing a tear of joy or lifting someone up with my music, is the sole purpose the creation of Singing Telegrams Vancouver.
Biography
Peter was born and raised in Vancouver BC and began playing music almost 4 decades ago at the age of eight. He started on the accordion, moved to the drums, then transcended to piano and guitar. He still plays all instruments to date.
Peter played drums while his father played accordion and mother played tambourine & melodica. Coming from a background of Viennese music and culture, the family musical group was soon playing private New Years Parties, Birthdays and Anniversaries. Early on in high school he played clarinet in the school band and formed his first Pop Ensemble. At the age of 16, Peter’s band became popular as the lunch hour entertainment favorite and sock hop dance band after school.
It was just a small leap from there to begin his professional career as a drummer in the number one cabaret band in Vancouver, “The Handley Page Group.” The group toured across Canada,
achieving acclaim wherever they played.
Whenever Peter was not touring with the band, he was teaching piano, guitar and drums. He opened music programs in community centers all over the lower mainland of Vancouver and held recitals.
Peter continued to play in many bands of different ethnic backgrounds, singing in English and German. He has played in the Rheinlander Band for over 40 years playing Oktoberfest music every year in cultural centers like The Vancouver Alpin Club, The Austrian Vancouver Club, The Norwegian and Estonian Cultural Centers and many more.
Peter also played in the popular “Night Moves,” a Latin-American & Ballroom Dance Band. In addition, he played with the European favorite, Black Forest Band.
Peter continued to play in many Country Rock & Roll bands throughout his career and currently plays in two popular bands.
He played in the Classic Rock & Roll Band “Right As Rain” for weddings, shuffleboard banquets and special events all over the lower mainland.
To add to this, Peter found a very warm spot in his heart for seniors and began playing in Special Care Home Facilities. He likes bringing joy to those who “don’t get around much anymore.” Lifting their spirits with multicultural favorites, he plays his guitar and sings to them making this activity one of his favorite musical expressions.
